  1. Daily News reporting that the Mets and Harvey have agreed to a $5,625,000 contract for 2018, avoiding arbitration.
  2. I knew it too. It used to get mentioned a lot on those old WOR broadcasts. I think it was a favorite "fun fact" of Ralph, Lindsey, and Bob.
  3. GOD OF BLUNDER has defeated FULL SPEED AHEAD and thus completes our Final Four for 2017. GOD OF BLUNDER has made history of sorts, as the first bad-news cover to ever advance this far.
  4. And... for being featured on Final Four covers, Jose Reyes, Noah Syndergaard, Yoenis Cespedes, and Wilmer Flores will each receive a copy of the Tabloid Cover Derby home game!
  5. We have completed our third round of voting, and, similar to last year, we have a Final Four consisting of two covers from the Daily News and one each from the New York Post and Newsday. In our three years of Tabloid Cover Derby, seven Daily News covers have reached the Final Four, as have three from the Post and two from Newsday. DAILY NEWS: YES-PEDES, CON4TO, TEAM OF DESTINY (2015) CES BOOM BAH!, METS IN A LANDSLIDE (2016) TRESPEDES, GOD OF BLUNDER (2017) NEW YORK POST: NY CITI (2015) SEEDS OF LIFE (2016) IN THE BIG INNING (2017) NEWSDAY: 11th HEAVEN (2016) THANK YOU, CARDS (2017) On Monday, we'll begin our semi-final voting, with TRESPEDES taking on GOD OF BLUNDER and IN THE BEGINNING facing off against THANK YOU, CARDS. Be there!
  6. John Cougar Lunchbucket wrote: Yeah I clicked "like" but wanted "like somewhat" Yeah, that's where I am. I'd rather have Jay Bruce than Nori Aoki, but not as much as JD Martinez. I fear that before the three years are up, he'll go back to being the guy that they wish they could trade.
  7. I shared your opinion of MR. 300. Now I'm going to go with GOD OF BLUNDER for as long as it lasts.
  8. The Daily News decided to go with a Giants cover today, but the Post and Newsday are first out of the gate for the 2018 Tabloid Cover Derby. "Joy in Metsville" is a bit of an overstatement. The Mets could have done more, but they also could have done less, so I'm pleased but not thrilled.
  9. This outcome really surprised me, but the people have spoken and IN THE BIG INNING has narrowly defeated MR. 300 and will advance, as the sole remaining New York Post cover, to the Final Four. Voting will resume on Monday.
  10. Frayed Knot wrote: I guess it also means the end of either Lagares or Nimmo as a NYM. Probably Lagares as he's too expensive to keep around as a 4th OF I'm not so sure. Unless I'm forgetting someone, doesn't the signing of Bruce give them five outfielders: Cespedes, Conforto, Bruce, Lagares, Nimmo? I can't think of who the sixth guy might be. Taijeron is gone, and so is Aoki. If Lagares or Nimmo goes, they'll need to get someone to replace the guy who leaves, right?
  11. What are the odds that Ceetar uses the word "garbage" somewhere in this thread?
  12. This poll has closed, and THANK YOU, CARDS becomes the second cover to advance to the Final Four.
  13. I got 11. Started strong, but soon I was making guesses like "Jim McAndrew" that I knew had to be wrong.
  14. This poll is now closed. TRESPEDES becomes our first cover this year to advance to the Final Four, defeating HARVEY WALLBANGERS.
  15. They should put a statue of Leo Mazzone, on a rocking pedestal, right next to the statue of Cox.
  16. Yeah, I'd rather take my chances with d'Arnaud and Plawecki and spend the money that would have gone to Lucroy elsewhere.
  17. Jon Paul Morosi of MLB.com reports that the Mets have had "some contact" with Lucroy's agent. https://amp.mlb.com/264332228-mets-considering-mike-moustakas-todd-frazier.amp.html?__twitter_impression=true
  18. Are these all guys who have neighbors with ugly trees?
  19. I don't know who the guy in the Angels cap is, and the inclusion of Ken Singleton puzzles me, because everyone else that I can identify came to the Mets as a veteran who established himself with other teams.
  20. With the name of the town, and the subtitle, it's obvious what movie's coattails they're trying to latch onto.
  21. If you want some help making your site responsive, give me a ring. Thank you! Your offer is very much appreciated and I just may take you up on it at some point in the near future! OE: Grimm:Now that I think about it I'm not sure by what you mean by "responsive" and maybe "interactive" does not apply. I'm picturing you sitting there answering questions and posting stuff by request or something...... No, I have no intention of "sitting there answering questions"! "Responsive" means that the site can determine if it's being viewed on a laptop or desktop or on a smaller mobile device and display itself accordingly. In other words, it could automatically change from a display like this: to this:
  22. I don't think the Daily News writers feel constrained in any way. Maybe while they're on SNY, but not when they're writing for the News. The lack of prospects is definitely a problem, though hopefully a short-term one. David Lennon said on Thursday's Mets Hot Stove that the Nationals have four of the Top 100 (I don't recall whose list he was referencing) and the Phillies have six and the Braves have seven, while the Mets and Marlins each have zero.
  23. No dollars, not anymore. I used to make about $400 per year on the UMDB through advertising, and had I not foolishly spent that money on women, booze, and beer I guess I'd probably be a billionaire by now. My dilemma is whether or not I want to take on the challenge of making the site responsive. I'm intrigued by the idea of it, but not, for the moment anyway, particularly motivated. So for now it will go on as it is.
  24. I'm not sure I would offer anything, but if I were inclined to make the gamble you propose, I'd go for more like $18 million over the two years. Maybe $16 million. He might not be inclined to take it, but I think the odds are that his upside is pretty mediocre from here forward.
