  1. I believe it would. As I understand it, insurance only kicks in after he's out for 60 consecutive days. So if he plays one inning that inning would cost the Mets twi months of his salary. That would be a very expensive inning.
  2. No, we'll have a special "weighted" tiebreaker poll, and if that ends in a tie, we'll have co-winners, like Willie Stargell and Keith Hernandez in 1979.
  3. Actually, it's more like "tie re-established"! IN THE BEGINNING moved to a 7-6 lead earlier today, but now we're back to a 7-7 tie. This is... unprecedented!
  4. I believe you're thinking of Beyonce.
  5. Discussions of David Wright are more likely to be "surgery" than "sugary", I'm afraid.
  6. STILL tied! Surely there are more than 12 votes out there! Anybody???
  7. "Until the end of time" is too big a commitment for me. I can only promise to root for him for another 3 billion years or so. And unless things have changed, Johan wouldn't have to pitch in a major league game to renew his eligibility. He could pitch an inning for Las Vegas, or any other minor league team and it would have the same effect.
  8. So what are you saying? That you'll go to Stockholm, but only if the Post cover wins? Either way, the 1980s sitcom celebrity will be at the ceremony, and we're still working on convincing Maja to attend. And we have a lead on a famous Hollywood ghost, but nothing has been finalized yet on that front.
  9. Voting is currently tied! Is there anyone who hasn't yet voted who cares to break this tie?
  10. Where are you seeing the Newsday cover? They've changed their page where I used to go for the covers, in an apparent attempt to self-sabotage their chances in future competitions. I was able to grab today's from the Newsday Sports Twitter feed, but I'd like to think that there's a more reliable source.
  11. I partially agree. Colon is not the answer to the Mets rotation problems, but thinking things are "just fine" is way too optimistic. With luck, it could turn out that way, but importing another pitching option would help the odds.
  12. Winner of Round 1.0.4 Winner of Round 2.3.2 Winner of Round 3.3.1 Winner of Round 4.0.2 IN THE BIG INNING New York Post, April 4, 2017. The Mets get 2017 off to a good start with a six-run seventh inning in their 6-0 Opening Day win over the Braves. Winner of Round 1.0.7 Winner of Round 2.4.1 Winner of Round 3.4.1 Winner of Round 4.0.1 GOD OF BLUNDER New York Daily News, May 1, 2017. Perhaps Noah should have had that MRI after all.
  13. He's wrong.

  15. And the whole "six wins and then he retires" thing seems too gimmicky, if true. (I'm skeptical about that.) If the team is trying to get a post-season slot, why give a spot to someone who, in theory, might retire in July?
  16. The New York Post had not been performing well in this year's Tabloid Cover Derby, while Newsday had secured four of the slots in the Elite Eight. However, the tables have now turned, and the Post's IN THE BIG INNING has survived to the final round, while the last remaining Newsday cover, THANK YOU, CARDS, has now been eliminated.
  17. Voting in this poll has ended, and GOD OF BLUNDER edges TRESPEDES, continuing its Cinderella run. GOD OF BLUNDER now advances to the final round. Vegas oddsmakers had had TRESPEDES as an early favorite, primarily because of its similarity to our two previous winning covers, 2015's TRESPEDES and 2016's CES BOOM BAH! The third time, however, wasn't the charm, and TRESPEDES moves to the sidelines.
  18. Here's my 30. What an awful year! Jacob deGrom Michael Conforto Jay Bruce Asdrubal Cabrera Wilmer Flores Jose Reyes Travis d'Arnaud Curtis Granderson Yoenis Cespedes Lucas Duda Neil Walker Jerry Blevins Addison Reed Juan Lagares Seth Lugo Josh Edgin T.J. 19. We now know who will be playing in this year's Super Bowl, but more importantly, we also know the Tabloid Cover Derby finalists for 2017. The New York Post's IN THE BIG INNING will face off against the Daily News' GOD OF BLUNDER. It's a final matchup that demonstrates how unpredictable the Tabloid Cover Derby can be! Voting begins tomorrow! The winner will be announced next week in Stockholm. We're having a little trouble setting up the ceremony. Unlike the previous two years, the Swedish Royal Family has refused to participate. The Mets have yet to commit to sending a representative. A rather unenthusiastic Maja has been non-committal. We have, at least, managed to book an actress from a popular 1980s sitcom. Unfortunately, we do not yet have a venue for the ceremony, but the gang in the Stockholm office is frantically working on making arrangements. I'm sure we'll figure something out!
  20. Schaefer Mets Reliever of the Month September 2017
  21. Yeah, I do too.
  22. Yes, but on the other hand, it's someone who goes to bed without seeing the commercials that air in the later innings. Making pitching changes quicker would help a lot, I think. Limit it to three warm-up pitches on the mound. (How many do they currently get?)
  23. That mentoring will be difficult if Dominic is in Las Vegas.
