  1. Winner of Round 1.0.1 COWBOY UP! New York Post, February 14, 2017. The Post visits Yoenis Cespedes at his ranch. Winner of Round 1.0.7 GOD OF BLUNDER New York Daily News, May 1, 2017. Perhaps Noah should have had that MRI after all.
  2. Marlins fans must be just loving Derek Jeter and the new ownership so much.
  3. I have this hope that Mickey and Dave Eiland can rehabilitate Hansel Robles. That would be really helpful. I don't know how realistic a hope that is, but Mickey seems to think he can. (I can't help but remember Rick Peterson, Victor Zambrano, and "ten minutes.")
  4. The Post reports that the Mets are one of ten teams on Ian Kinsler's no-trade list. LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. — The Mets’ first choice at second base may be Ian Kinsler, but all that matters if a trade can be completed with the Tigers is if Kinsler has mutual feelings. Kinsler has a 10-team no-trade clause and he has a ton of leverage because the three teams most focused upon — the Mets, Angels and Brewers — are all on his list, The Post has learned. Thus, he would have to approve a trade to any of those clubs, and it is believed only the Angels are a near-certain yes right now. This is a new wrinkle: The rebuilding Tigers picked up Kinsler’s $11 million 2018 option specifically to trade him. The 35-year-old is coming off his worst season, hitting just .236 with a .725 OPS. But he still had 22 homers and 14 steals while continuing to be viewed as an above-average defender at second base. If they really picked up his contract in order to trade him, then he won't come cheaply for some token prospect as you might expect if it was a pure dump of an unwanted salary. It may come to that, if the Tigers have misjudged the market, but it seems clear that they'll at least start with asking for more than that.
  5. I agree that Post covers are generally pretty ugly, and we have two of them here, but at least they're both "good news" covers. But voting is your civic duty!
  6. I think they're a "good" team but I have my doubts about whether they're a "good enough" team.
  7. Are you sure your vote registered? I voted for BIG INNING also, but I only see one vote up there.
  8. Winner of Round 1.0.4 IN THE BIG INNING New York Post, April 4, 2017. The Mets get 2017 off to a good start with a six-run seventh inning in their 6-0 Opening Day win over the Braves. Winner of Round 1.0.10 30 ROCKS! New York Post, May 24, 2017. Michael Conforto contributes to a seven-run first inning as the Mets beat the Padres 9-3.
  9. He does look like the kind of guy who would clobber you with a pie in the face.
  10. Can we still get Xander Bogaerts for him?
  11. I think all eight of those guys are expected (as much as possible, of course) to be healthy and ready to go. As long as there's not another calamity like last year, they should have enough starting pitching for the season. The question is, how much quality is in that mix? I have faith in deGrom and Syndergaard. Beyond that, there are a lot of questions.
  12. This one's a little low on votes. (Probably because neither cover is all that.) Bumping it just in case anyone else cares to chime in.
  13. Winner of Round 1.0.2 CAMP DAVID Newsday, February 26, 2017. In spring training, an optimistic David Wright looks ahead to the coming season. Winner of Round 1.0.12 MR. 300 New York Daily News, June 15, 2017. Curtis Granderson hits his 300th career home run in a win over the Cubs.
  14. Well, my point was that in retrospect, after 2015 was the best time to trade him. I can't fault them for not doing that, because at the time it would have seemed premature. As I said above, if he had had a solid 2016 I would have traded him after that season. That would have been ideal.
  15. After 2015, I was thinking that the ideal time to trade Harvey was after the 2016 season, when he was still two years away from free agency. If he had had a 2016 like his 2015, he would have brought back a good return. But his 2016 ended in injury, so then the time to trade him was after his 2017 rebound, when he was still one year away from free agency. That didn't work out either. I don't regret that the Mets didn't trade him, because I think the only ideal chance to do that was after 2015, and that would have seemed, at the time, to be premature. My main regret in this area is that things played out in a way that there was never a good time to trade him in over the last twelve months.
  16. Jeter won't get nearly as much slack in Miami as he got in the Bronx. While Mets fans certainly have a right to be disgruntled at the moment, I can only imagine how Marlins fans must feel.
  17. My hunch is that it's going to be Kinsler from Detroit, if the Mets are able to get him in exchange for a token prospect.
  18. I can too. Right now, there's at least the hope that he's had more time to recover and will pitch well in 2018. If, however, we get to May 15 and he has an ERA of 8.50, his trade value will be worse than it is now.
  19. d'Kong76 wrote: I thought he made $3 mil something not $7 something... Rotoworld says $5.125. I think his estimated salary for 2018 is around $7 million, but since it hasn't been decided yet, it's just speculation. He's eligible for arbitration.
  20. I don't know... if they trade him for a young reliever with a few years of control remaining, it might not be such a bad thing. And it will give them another $7 million or so to work with. It is frustrating that they have a limited budget, but it's a fact. The Wilpons are the curse that's been inflicted on this generation of Mets fans. I wish they'd either spend like a New York team should spend or else step aside, but given the constraints that they apparently (and inexplicably) have, a deal like this might be a good move.
  21. Winner of Round 1.0.15 ALL ABOARD! Newsday, August 14, 2017. The Mets look ahead, with misguided optimism, to the four-game series against the Yankees. Winner of Round 1.0.8 AWFULLY FAMILIA New York Daily News, May 11, 2017. Jeurys Familia blows a save at Citi Field against the Giants, as he did in the previous October's Wild Card Game.
  22. I'd feel much better about this if Stanton was 33. But I looked it up and he's only 28!
  23. All we can do, other than lament, is hope that Stanton sucks.
  24. GLORY JAYS is way too cluttered, as many Post covers are. I prefer the clean look of the Newsday cover here.
