  2. Cast your vote!
  3. I think the m-dash thing will really come back to haunt this 1974 cover if it advances to the second round.
  4. The 2006 cover is appealing, but it's little different from most of the other covers from the recent era. I do appreciate that we're moving past the era of overly digitally edited images, so I guess this cover gets points for that. But I prefer the simplicity of a championship flag flying over Shea Stadium. I could very well have gone with 2006, but 1974 gets my vote.
  5. The following polls are still open for voting: Yearbook Cover Derby Round 1.11 1987 orig vs 1992 Española Yearbook Cover Derby Round 1.12 1985 vs 1994 Yearbook Cover Derby Round 1.13 1981 vs 1998 Yearbook Cover Derby Round 1.14 1964 vs 2016 Yearbook Cover Derby Round 1.15 1980 vs 1999 Yearbook Cover Derby Round 1.16 1967 vs 2013 Yearbook Cover Derby Round 1.17 1974 vs 2006 And, in yet another lopsided victory, the 1977 Original Edition has defeated the much-reviled 2003 yearbook by a score of 16 to 1. ADVANCING TO ROUND TWO: ELIMINATED:

Also the three youngest managers in team history. Johnson made it to six-of-seven before getting his second loss. Torre did one better, winning seven of his first eight. And now Mickey has matched Davey Johnson's start.
  7. Nice play by Lagares! Runner from second thrown out at home on a single up the middle.
  8. I guess Mickey likes Matz as a hitter. He was swinging away with one out and a runner on first. It didn't work out; Steven hits into an inning-ending double play.
  9. Nice inning for Matz. That swing-and-miss by Harper was quite satisfying.
  10. I like how 1965, with a setback in the won-lost record, is portrayed as a broken plank. The staircase extends all the way up to 1980. It's nice to imagine the Mets record continuing to improve each year for eleven years after 1969.
  11. I went with 1967. The 2013 cover is too busy for my taste.
  12. Sixteen votes for 1976, two votes for 2004. ADVANCING TO ROUND TWO: ELIMINATED:
  13. Matz Saturday, Harvey Sunday?
  14. The latest on Vargas (as of this morning) is that he still can't wear a glove and is expected to miss at least one more start. I don't know if that means Lugo gets a start, or if the Mets instead stick with a four-man rotation because of days off.
  15. I was expecting to see Rhame in the ninth last inning. But for now anyway, I'll trust that Mickey knows what he's doing.
  16. Yeah, but fortunately it's just an anomaly because Thursday was the Nationals home opener. There are no more vacant Fridays remaining on the schedule.
  17. Will almost certainly repeat as Schaefer Mets Reliever of the Year.
  18. That 1980 cover is hideous. The weird looking kid in the weird looking chair in the weird contorted position. And the three figures of Mets players look like somebody traced them from photographs. The NY insignia in the boy's cap filling the zero in the year is also weird. I don't like the 1999 cover a whole lot either. It's yet another example from that era of somebody masturbating while using Photoshop, but it's the better of the two. And the white uniforms to stand out nicely against the black background. It does seem like, in most of these polls, a lot of us are voting against the worse one instead of for the better one.
  19. Today marks the closing of the eighth poll in the first round, meaning we have now established one quarter of the participants in the second round. The string of landslides continues, as 1978 scores an easy 15-2 victory over 2001. ADVANCING TO ROUND TWO: ELIMINATED:
  20. It would really be a great time for Matz to step up.
