The best thing I remember from 2017 is the TRESPEDES game, where the Mets clobbered the Phillies before we knew that the season was going South. But a win against the Nationals and Stephen Strasburg is much more of a statement than a win against the Phillies. And now that I've dug up that cover, I see that even that day was tainted with bad injury news.

Also the three youngest managers in team history. Johnson made it to six-of-seven before getting his second loss. Torre did one better, winning seven of his first eight.

  5. And Bruce blows the game open with a Grand Salami!
  6. I think those are actually keys that you're seeing there.
  7. TREA TURNER STRIKES OUT ON THREE PITCHES! deGROM PITCHES HIS WAY OUT OF THAT JAM! Nice job!
  8. Reyes catches a line drive. Two out now.
  9. Zimmerman pops one up. One out now.
  10. Jacob in a jam here. Bases loaded, nobody out, Mets hanging on to a 4-2 lead.
  11. I'm glad that this "Conforto" guy is on the team.
  12. I'm glad that this "Cespedes" guy is on the team.
  13. Two out in the third and deGrom has only thrown 28 pitches.
  14. Yeah, I think Mullin is great. I wish he had done every cover for the last 57 seasons. I don't really have a sense about how this competition is going to turn out, but I wouldn't be at all surprised if the Final Four was comprised entirely of Willard Mullin covers.
  15. There's something strange about center field in that photo. It's oddly truncated. I'm not at all sure what's going on.
  16. I love the Mullin covers, although admittedly this isn't the best of them. But I doubt that I'll ever vote against a Mullin cover unless there are two of them competing against each other. If they had to go with a posed photo, I would have preferred the cover commemorating the 2015 champs to have been taken outside, on green grass with a blue sky, instead of in somebody's basement. An action shot from the 2015 postseason would have been better, maybe the Mets celebrating on the field in Chicago or L.A.? Unfortunately, the most iconic photo from that postseason is of Chase Utley breaking Ruben Tejada's leg, and that would have been a very strange choice for a yearbook cover.
  17. The 2000 cover has ousted the 1979 cover by a tally of 12 to 3. We have now concluded seven of the 32 first-round polls. ADVANCING TO ROUND TWO: ELIMINATED:
  18. And Gsellman in to pitch the fifth.
  19. Noah out after four innings.
  20. Three innings, an hour and 20 minutes so far.
  21. Syndergaard: 76 pitches through three innings. Sheesh.
  22. GameDay wrote: Yoenis Cespedes homers (2) on a fly ball to left field. Brandon Nimmo scores.
