  1. I've been watching on TiVo delay. Started watching at around 1:30 and didn't have to endure a commercial break for the first six innings. Nice to see a Cespedes homer! It's been a long time!
  2. I can imagine young fans wondering who "Punf" is.
  3. I kinda like that the blue on Mr. Met looks like it was colored in with a felt-tip marker.
  4. A lot of these later covers suffer from the existence of digital photo editing tools. It allows the cover designer to easily go overboard. I think the "graph paper" idea is pretty creative, but unfortunately it's not executed all that well. The 1976 Bicentennial cover is one of only two yearbook covers to feature Mr. Met, and both are in the cartoon form. I suppose it's inevitable that the costumed Mr. Met will appear on a cover, most likely during one of the down periods when there aren't any star players for the team to highlight. The other Mr. Met cover has already appeared in this competition. It's the 1963 cover which currently has a healthy lead over 2017 in Round 1.05.
  5. Round 1.02 has now closed, with 1983 winning an easy 12-5 victory over 1996. ADVANCING TO ROUND TWO: ELIMINATED:
  6. Oops, I'm out of practice. I usually post the link. Here it is: http://potg.leaptoad.com/mets/
  7. Baseball Reference is a bit slow getting out of the gate once again this year, and yesterday's box score is not yet available for me to paste into my UMDB box score spreadsheet. As a result, Schaefer voting for Opening Day will be delayed. We do apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused. To show our appreciation for your patience, please stop by the front desk to pick up a voucher for a free drink at the bar in the lounge.
  8. We have our first poll closing. In Round 1.01, the 1989 Revised Edition ousted the 1990 Revised Edition by a vote of 10 to 7. (None of the subsequent polls, to date, have been nearly as close. The second through eighth polls are all heavily lopsided.) These seven polls are still open for voting. The response so far for 1.07 (1979 vs. 2000) has been a little light. Judging by the vote count, there are probably four or five regular voters who have not yet chimed in. 9. Although I certainly approve of the 2000 National League Championship, that 2001 cover is too busy and messy. It looks like a bunch of faces trying to emerge from a spilled puddle of India ink. I much prefer the nice photo of John Stearns, so 1978 gets my vote. The only thing missing is Flushing's ZIP Code, an omission which the Mets would remedy for the 1979 cover.
  10. Maybe he'll have a layover at LaGuardia...
  11. Is Cabrera wearing Ronald McDonald's shoes?
  12. Jeez, I had forgotten about Lazy Mary!
  13. I'd give Gsellman another inning. Maybe even another two, if he does well.
  14. I think I'd remove Noah after the sixth.
  15. That would have been my second guess.
  16. That's when you have to call your doctor.
  17. Mickey must be feeling pretty chuffed, to borrow a word from metirish.
  18. Now Cespedes has a chance to blow this thing open.
  19. And he comes through!
  20. 54 pitches already for Martinez.
