  1. Yeah, it was an okay movie, but not nearly as good as the first. My favorite part was the expression on Jack-Jack's face as his father was reading him a bedtime story. It was perfect, exactly the face I remember on my own kids, as they struggle to listen to the story while simultaneously trying to fight the urge to fall asleep.
  2. For some reason, I haven't yet gotten tired of referencing this thread from 2006: Nickname Methodology
  3. Well, I disagree. So you're wrong. Cabrera, Nimmo, and Wheeler (I guess) are having good seasons, but not deserving of All-Star. (Unless as a solo Mets pity selection.)
  4. I'm sure you know more about this than I do, but I found this simple explanation, which means I have a shot: 6. The next pope doesn’t necessarily have to be a cardinal. There are only two requirements for becoming pope: being male and being baptized into the Catholic Church. But although this technically leaves hundreds of millions of people eligible, they shouldn’t hold their breath. A non-cardinal hasn’t been chosen since 1378, when the selection of Urban VI brought about the Western Schism. And this more detailed explanation, which would rule me out, not because of marriage but because of parts of (1) and (4) and (5): A person who is elected as Roman Pontiff must be ordained a bishop immediately after election, if he does not already hold such office. Second: Can. 378 §1. In regard to the suitability of a candidate for the episcopacy, it is required that he is: 1/ outstanding in solid faith, good morals, piety, zeal for souls, wisdom, prudence, and human virtues, and endowed with other qualities which make him suitable to fulfill the office in question; 2/ of good reputation; 3/ at least thirty-Five years old; 4/ ordained to the presbyterate for at least Five years; 5/ in possession of a doctorate or at least a licentiate in sacred scripture, theology, or canon law from an institute of higher studies approved by the Apostolic See, or at least truly expert in the same disciplines.

I really had high hopes for Mickey, but unless the new GM is one of the current three in-house contenders, and one who initially supported Mickey and still does, I don't think he'll survive the transition.
  6. Oh, so you're talking about people who are technically eligible, the same way that I'm eligible to be pope because I was baptized Catholic, even though I'm now an athiest. I was talking about reasonable choices. Philip Evans is as likely to be an All-Star as I am to be the next pope. Jacob deGrom is the only Met who deserves to be an All-Star based on merit. If he wasn't around, then the Mets would get a pity choice.

  8. DeGrom is the obvious choice. Really the only choice.
  9. Has he been accruing service time during his suspension? I would think not, but who knows?
  10. Allowing him a chance to reestablish himself would be a good use of the remaining games of the season. Especially after Cabrera is dealt away.
  11. Voting for the games played between June 18 and June 30 will close on Thursday, July 12. It looks like all five of our remaining participants (thanks for hanging in there, guys!) have done their voting, but I'll give the customary one-week notice nevertheless. So... If you're on the list below with a 12 next to your name, you're all caught up on the games that are about to close. If not, and if you're so inclined, please try to get your votes in over the next week. Ashie62 12 Benjamin Grimm 12 G-Fafif 12 Kongsuds 12 Vic Sage 12
  12. The fanfare was kind of preempted because of the "We seem to have a champion" post that snuck in before I got a chance to create the fanfare! I still plan to post the final bracket graphic when I get the chance, and we may eventually stage some kind of low-key ceremony in Stockholm.
