  1. Wow, I just posted his name in that quiz yesterday. Now I have guilt!
  2. I'm most intrigued by the guy "who spent most of his career with the Mets." Best guess I can come up with so far is Kevin McReynolds.
  3. The more I think about this the more interested I am. Have you had a chance yet to send out that message? Thanks!
  4. The opposite quiz would also be fun. Guys who debuted with the Mets.
  5. The opening post in this thread suggests at least one active player. So... Juan Soto?
  6. I'm trying to think of who the other pitcher might be. My guess is it's some reliever with a long career, but I can't think of one of those so I'll guess Randy Jones.
  7. We can use a pitcher on this list. How about David Cone?
  8. Put me down for Joseph Larry Torre.
  9. Either way, they were going to pay him $17 million to not pitch in 2026, so they might as well clear the roster spot.
  10. Okay then, how about Larry Berra instead of Larry Bowa?
  11. I think the forum would perform better either with a different hosting company (it's currently on BlueHost, which hasn't impressed me at all) or if it was split away from the UMDB. I think the combined bot traffic of the two entities may be what's causing the issues we've been seeing. Anyone who owns a domain and a hosting account that supports PHP should (as I understand it) be able to host the forum at no additional charge, as the UMDB has been doing.
  12. Yes, please go ahead and do that. Thank you! As for the forum, if you want to start hosting it again i will, of course, help with the cutover and can continue providing the occasional technical support.
  13. This may very well turn out to be nothing, but I want to be transparent and not surprise anybody. I've started looking into whether it would be possible to sell the UMDB to an interested buyer. My interest in maintaining the site is waning and I'd rather hand it off to someone else than simply shut it down. The estimated valuations that I'm seeing are nice, but nothing that makes me thing "ca-ching!" I don't know if a buyer would scrap the content and keep the domain name. Or scrap the domain name and keep the content. Or keep both. Or scrap both! (I guess that last option would be pointless.) Is there anyone here who wants to take it on? (I doubt it; there are very few people here.) Or that knows somebody? Would this forum survive? If there's a buyer who doesn't want the forum, does anyone here want to take on ownership of it? I only have questions, but not answers. It's possible that things will continue as they have for another year or more. But maybe not. I hope nobody is too upset about this, but nothing lasts forever.
  14. I'd be happy to see him return, but he is also very tradeable so I wouldn't be surprised if he was moved.
  15. If they want to honor a representative from that era, the Joe Torre years, John Stearns would be my choice. I wonder if he would have been the guy if he wasn't dead at the present time. Being dead shouldn't be a disqualification. I'm looking at you, Rube Walker.
  16. I agree with Beltran and Bobby. Not so sure about Maz.
  17. MLB certainly plays a part in promoting gambling, from the advertising they accept to the discussion of betting odds during game broadcasts and pre-game shows. They're embracing it, rather than distancing themselves, so they're a least partially to blame.
  18. Trump will probably buy it with taxpayer dollars.
  19. I'd be more likely to be okay with the deal if it was Sproat OR Tong, but not both. We've seen how precious starting pitching depth can be.
