  1. I did Gene Woodling (0.2%), Gary Carter (1%) and Ken Boswell (1%)
  2. I whiffed on the entire middle row. I had Howard Johnson as a Rockie third baseman and Walt Weiss at second base. Both were wrong.
  3. The Super Bowl is over, and now America's attention turns to an even more heralded event... the final round of the Tabloid Cover Derby! This year's final battle will, for the sixth consecutive year, be a faceoff between a Daily News cover (THEY DON'T GOT IT) and a cover from Newsday (REDEMPTION). Tabloid Cover Derby I, from 2015, featured two Daily News covers in the final round. TCDs II and III, in 2016 and 2017, ended with the Daily News defeating the New York Post. The Daily News was victorious over Newsday in TCD IV in 2018, but Newsday then topped the News in TCD V, VI, VII, and VII (2019 through 2022). Enough history lessons! The Big Event is tomorrow! THEY DON'T GOT IT vs REDEMPTION! A trip to Stockholm and tabloid cover immortality is on the line! Don't dare miss it! http://leaptoad.com/mets/covers/images/2023/brackets_2023_005.png>

  6. I voted Billy because of all the prospects he added last season. But Porter did make the Lindor trade.
  7. Benjamin Grimm wrote: Me neither, but I'll bet Fman made fun of his name. =Fman99 post_id=115357 time=1671712830 user_id=86] I guess Billy Ladysnooch was not available.
  8. Edgy MD wrote: Was his abuse worse or was the evidence just more damning? Maybe it was worse. Or maybe it was more brazen. I'd really love to know the details.
  9. I'd be interested in knowing which specific transactions were in violation. I'm not sure that will ever be disclosed.
  10. Me neither, but I'll bet Fman made fun of his name.
  11. The categories that tend to give me the most trouble (other than Tampa Bay Rays) are 30 saves, first-round draft pick, and only one team.
  12. I got a 53, with some of the same guesses as yours. (Even though my numbers add up to only 52. I guess there's some rounding going on.) NEGL/300AVG - Willie Mays 6 NEGL/10HR - Larry Doby 12 NEGL/10W - Don Newcombe 10 LAD/300AVG - Brett Butler 1 LAD/10HR - Duke Snider 3 LAD/10W - Fernando Valenzuela 8 BAL/300AVG - Eddie Murray 8 BAL/10HR - Brooks Robinson 2 BAL/10W - Pat Dobson 2
  13. I've seen references to Salt Lake City, but find it hard to believe that it would be ahead of Nashville, not to mention Charlotte, Portland, Vancouver, and Montreal. I suppose it might be easier for the A's to get approval to move to a city in the West, so that divisions don't have to be realigned, but I would be surprised if they were strictly required to stay out West.
  14. Andy Martino, however, says that of course the Mets are talking to him, they're talking to everybody who's still available, but he's pretty certain that JD Martinez is not going to be a Met this year.
  15. This article implies that the A's might not actually be welcome in Las Vegas. The city's mayor, at least, seems pretty opposed to the current plan. https://defector.com/las-vegas-mayor-to-john-fisher-maybe-try-staying-in-oaklandLas Vegas Mayor To John Fisher: Maybe Try Staying In Oakland
  16. It doesn't look like they're going to sign either of those guys. I think this year it's going to be Vientos until and unless he shows he's not good enough.

  19. No-hitter Cubs stumped me. I tried Ferguson Jenkins and Kerry Wood and both were wrong.
  20. I hope Todd Frazier never becomes a Mets broadcaster.
  21. Turned 37 a couple of weeks ago. The Mets would be his ninth major league team. (He's been with the Phillies, Rangers, Athletics, White Sox, Royals, Diamondbacks, Rays, and Red Sox.) Last year he had a 3.34 ERA in 63 games (56.2 innings) with the White Sox and Rays. 64 strikeouts, 38 walks, and 3 homers allowed.
  22. I went with Posey and Ozzie too. Once I used Satchell Paige and Roy Campanella, my rarity score was already shot. I too had Tim McCarver as catcher for the Cardinals. Willie Mays as my Negro League shortstop got me a 2, which was nice. Henry Mathewson as a Giants pitcher was an 0.02%, which may be the lowest number I've ever seen. Paul Dean as a Cardinals pitcher was 0.8%. My Giants shortstop was Chris Spier, at 4%.
  23. Their names are familiar. Do they have any presence on SNY? "Dollar-store Mike and the Mad Dog"? Wow, that's pretty bad. Mike and the Mad Dog themselves weren't exactly Bloomingdales.
  24. Nice! I scored a 5 once, and have never gotten close to that since then.
