  1. It looks like a taxidermy tiger from the 19th century. The kind you might see in a rickety old museum. I expect that that's what they were going for.
  2. Maybe he'll earn the nickname "Master" that Harrison Bader is trying to claim.
  3. For whatever reason, I'm more optimistic about Vientos than I am about Baty. I think he'll hold his own as the DH this year. 450 plate appearances, 19 homers, 65 RBI.
  4. Wow, can you imagine the angst if that had happened in his first game as a Met?
  5. That makes sense. Lucchesi was already sent down, so the spot in the rotation to fill in for Senga was just down to Megill and Butto.
  6. I think he'll be back in Queens by June. Will get seven starts over the course of the season, and will otherwise pitch long/middle relief. 3-3, 4.20 ERA. 1 save.
  7. Well, he's already had a better career than Lou Klimchock. So at least there's that. I'd be delighted if he could be a Dave Magadan, but I'm no longer optimistic about him. I think 2024 is the year that confirms that he's not the third baseman of the future.
  8. I was going to go with Robin Roberts, then briefly considered John Denny, but decided to play it safe with Carlton especially since my first guess, Javier Baez for Tigers/Cubs, pretty much ended my chance at getting a low score.
  9. I was able to fill in eight of the nine boxes almost immediately, but I had no idea who might have had 30 saves for the Blue Jays. After I gave up, I peeked, and I know that if I thought about it for a hundred years I never would have come up with any of the 12 pitchers who had done it.
  10. Wow, $31 million doesn't go nearly as far as it used to.
  11. He'll play more games before June 15 than he will after that date. His bat won't make up for his glove, and he'll be displaced in the outfield by either McNeil or Gilbert. Or maybe even Stewart or Taylor.
  12. I love to think that he'll get it all together this year and become a superstar, but I don't think it will happen. He'll be more consistent behind the plate than at the bat, where he'll still run hot and cold. 22 homers, .235, 70 rbi.
  13. Twelve days until Opening Day and Snell and Montgomery are still out there.
  14. Joel Sherman wrote: The Mets were a finalist, according to a source, but Davis picked the A's to a large extent because he will be a free agent after this season and wanted assured regular time. That the Mets could not guarantee that reflects that Stearns is sticking with this plan and wants more information and certainty with Baty and Vientos.
  15. I scored a 39 today, which might be my second-lowest ever. Bonus: Eight of the nine players were Mets. NYM/TEX: Lee Mazzilli 2% NYM/SS: Roy McMillan 0.3% NYM/30HR: Ike Davis 1% 2B/TEX: Lenny Randle 1% 2B/SS: Jose Reyes 1% 2B/30HR: Jeff Kent 17% 30SB/TEX: Oddibe McDowell 9% 30SB/SS: Francisco Lindor 3% 30SB/30HR: Howard Johnson 4%
  16. Lucchesi or Wendle?
  17. https://pulpcovers.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/08/52032748145-avon-books-c755-lenard-kaufman-juvenile-delinquents-600x931.jpg> That cover art would look good on a "This game is now available for Schaefer voting" graphic. (Sadly, there are no openings.)
  18. Or maybe J.D. Power and Associates. I don't care about J.D. Power so much, but I'm intrigued by his Associates.
  19. That would leave him with one more than Darryl Strawberry.
  20. I think we'll see two of them, if not all three, in 2024.
  21. He's been the anti-Howard Johnson, better in even-numbered years than odd. I'm afraid I'm not optimistic about him. I predict he'll put up decent but not impressive numbers. Maybe .260, 10 homers. He'll start the season at second base, but will get moved to becoming a most-of-the-time outfielder by June or July if he gets pushed by Acuna or Williams, assuming that he's not blocked by Gilbert.
  22. I find myself rooting for the J.D. Davis thing to happen.
  23. From my perspective he was an original Met, since the 1971 team was the first one I followed. This was my very first Mets baseball card. It was in the first pack of cards that my parents bought for me: https://www.tcdb.com/Images/Cards/Baseball/71/71-428Fr.jpg> https://www.tcdb.com/Images/Cards/Baseball/71/71-428Bk.jpg>
  24. On the last day of the season, he'll still be a Met. (Beyond that, I'm less certain.) 42 homers, 125 rbi.. 240.
