  1. Um, yeah, no. That doesn't make any sense.
  2. You'd have a better chance if you were a billionaire.
  3. I voted for Gilbert but it was close. Jett is very intriguing.
  4. Which of these prospects are you most eager to see?
  5. Mike Puma reporting today that the Mets are showing strong interest in Giolito. Mike Puma wrote: The Mets are showing strong interest in the right-hander, whose top selling point might be his ability to consume innings. Giolito, pitched 184 ¹/₃ innings last season — divided among the White Sox, Angels and Guardians — marking the fourth time since 2018 he surpassed 170 in a season. He finished with 204 strikeouts last season, which ranked sixth in the American League. Giolito had a solid first half with the White Sox last season, but beginning in mid-July went through a divorce and was later traded twice, factors that may have contributed to his shaky numbers after the All-Star break. Overall, he finished 8-15 with a 4.88 ERA in 33 starts and his 41 homers allowed led the AL. But the fact he is only 29 and received Cy Young award votes as recently as 2021 are positives for Giolito, who has also been linked to the Dodgers and Red Sox, among others, this winter. https://nypost.com/2023/12/26/sports/mets-have-strong-interest-in-lucas-giolito-as-they-mull-free-agency-options/https://nypost.com/2023/12/26/sports/mets-have-strong-interest-in-lucas-giolito-as-they-mull-free-agency-options/
  6. Yeah, I'm wondering where Beltran is at.
  7. Wow, the Dodgers are getting everybody!
  8. This is as confusing as "Magical Urine"
  9. I messed up by picking Pepper Martin as my Cardinals Hall of Famer.
  10. $100,781,932 million? That would be $100 trillion!
  11. I voted third. Behind the Braves and the Phillies, but ahead of the Nationals and Marlins.
  12. I'm not clear what we're voting for... the only options are 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5.
  13. I pretty much agree. It doesn't make sense to go into 2024 thinking it's a lost season. You can try to be a 90-win team instead of a 100-win team (just this once) and get into the playoff melee and maybe turn that into a championship.
  14. Well, yeah, if that's what it takes. But if Montgomery could be had for five years, I'd go for it.
  15. Yes, but Montgomery and Snell are quite a bit younger than Scherzer (37) and Verlander (40) were when they pitched their first games with the Mets.
  16. I'd like them to try for that other Japanese starter, Shota Imanaga. Plus a DH with power, maybe a Jorge Soler or Teoscar Hernandez. I also think they should look at Jordan Montgomery, but everything I'm hearing says they're not going to do that.
  17. =metirish post_id=143406 time=1703197513 user_id=72] Apparently Yamamoto can't make it
  18. I was unaware, until just now, what a career Adrian Beltre had. 477 homers, 3,166 hits, .286/.339/.480. Hall of Fame similarity scores close to Dave Winfield, Eddie Murray, and Cal Ripken. (And Carlos Beltran is near that neighborhood as well.) I had been surprised that he was on all ballots we've seen so far, but I guess I shouldn't have been.
  19. This reminds me of how long it's been since I was a "baseball fan" as opposed to a Mets fan. Players have come along and had potentially Hall-of-Fame worthy careers and have been retired for five or more years and I'm barely familiar with them. I think Mark Buehrle was a pitcher, but I couldn't say what team or teams he was on. And the name Victor Martinez doesn't ring a bell at all. I have no idea who he is. And James Shields is a mystery as well.
  20. The second round of this year's Tabloid Cover Derby is now "in the books" and our Sweet Sixteen has been established. Newsday currently has the advantage, with nine remaining covers. The Daily News has six and the Post, as in most years, trails the pack. Alexander Hamilton's paper has only one cover still in the running. We'll now take a holiday hiatus, with third round voting beginning early in January. Round 3.01 THEY DON'T GOT IT (Daily News) vs FARM AID (Newsday) Round 3.02 THE FRIENDLY "GHOST" (Daily News) vs REDEMPTION (Newsday) Round 3.03 COOKIE MONSTERS (Daily News) vs THIS MUCH! 22. Edgy MD wrote: Wanting to see one more championship for your team before you die is pretty much true of every fan ever of every team ever. True, but I doubt that I'll be thinking of the Mets when I'm on my deathbed. And if I am, I'll probably be thinking of how thankful I am for 1986.
  23. That's just a cry for attention. It's still too early to judge the offseason because it's still in progress. And there's really no reason to think that the Mets hired Stearns because they were planning to give him a budget similar to what he had in Milwaukee.
