  2. Vientos is the guy I'm hoping has a breakout year. Of course, I'll accept a breakout year from anyone. But Vientos may be the most likely candidate, at least among the guys expected to go North with the team in a few weeks.
  3. My assumption was that it has something to do with the testicular region.
  4. How about Bob Walk?
  5. =Cowtipper post_id=147999 time=1709236485 user_id=166] 4. Tom Seaver, Gary Carter, Rickey Henderson, Roberto Alomar, Willie Mays, Eddie Murray, Tom Glavine, Nolan Ryan, Warren Spahn, Yogi Berra, Richie Ashburn, Casey Stengel, Gil Hodges, Joe Torre, Duke Snider and Mike Piazza were already guessed—but we're not done. By my count, there is one more person—not including coaches (so, a player or manager) that wore the Mets uniform and is now in the Hall of Fame. Who might that be?
  6. Maybe they can give Steve Albert another chance.
  7. How ridiculous that they had to "lobby hard". There's clearly plenty of room for the larger letters.

Edgy MD wrote: Phun Phact: Francisco Álvarez is at the top of their catching depth chart, but fourth in salary among catchers on the Mets' payroll, behind Omar Naváez, Tomás Nido, and James McCann. And hey! That's THREE acute accents on the catching depth chart! Too bad his parents didn't name him Jámes McCánn.
  9. The smaller lettering seems unwise and unnecessary.
  10. A simpler one pitch scenario is an intentional walk and a triple play.
  11. My guess is they'll wait for some veteran reliever to fail miserably and get released, and then they'll promote Lavendar. That seems to be the way these things generally go.
  12. Mendy (can we call him that?) says he doesn't expect McNeil to appear in a game until early March.
  13. I don't remember the "R. MARTINEZ" who played second base for the Mets that day. https://leaptoad.com/mets/scorecard_graph.php?game=7555&font=5>
  14. It's inspired by legendary WABC disk jockey Dan Ingram.
  15. But he didn't stick around long enough for us to make endless jokes about how poorly educated he was. Who was that pitcher with the Marlins? Tom somebody?
  16. I think so too. That's the way the game has been going. I look down the list of recent Mets and there are so many whose names are completely unfamiliar to me, although of course I know who they were (or at least that they existed) at the time they were playing. Some of this is a reflection on how many brain cells I devote to short-term Mets, but it's also because there are so many of them. I remember Dennis D'Agostino's book listing the players who only appeared in one Mets game, and there were only six examples. The book covered what is, by now, about the first third of Mets history. In the years since, there have been 28 additional one-game Mets. Who the hell is Nick Tropeano? The name doesn't seem even remotely familiar to me. 1969-09-19 Jesse Hudson 1971-09-14 Frank Estrada 1971-09-15 Don Rose 1975-04-11 Mac Scarce 1977-04-13 Luis Alvarado 1977-09-29 Doc Medich 1987-07-25 Bob Gibson 1989-09-16 Manny Hernandez 1990-06-03 Dave Liddell 1993-09-29 Kenny Greer 1997-06-15 Kevin Morgan 1999-08-09 Dan Murray 2000-06-04 Ryan McGuire 2001-04-26 Brett Hinchliffe 2001-07-24 Gary Bennett 2004-10-03 Joe Hietpas 2007-04-30 Chan Ho Park 2007-07-27 Jon Adkins 2012-05-28 Jack Egbert 2012-08-08 Garrett Olson 2015-06-17 Akeel Morris 2017-05-07 Adam Wilk 2018-05-31 Scott Copeland 2019-08-04 Donnie Hart 2020-09-01 Ariel Jurado 2021-04-24 Stephen Tarpley 2021-07-09 Nick Tropeano 2021-07-29 Akeem Bostick 2022-08-16 R.J. 17. I have a feeling that we're going to see a real churn of players this year. Other than 1962, in which 45 players made their Mets debut, the most new Mets in a single season is 42, a record set in 2021. I have a hunch that that record is going to be challenged this year. 1962 45 2021 42 1967 35 2023 34 2022 31 2002 29 2004 29 2006 28 2013 28 2008 27 1998 26 2009 26 1995 25 1992 24 1997 24 2005 24 2018 24 2019 24 2012 23 2015 23 1963 22 2000 22 2007 22 2011 22 2003 21 2010 21 1965 20 1990 20 1993 20 1999 20 2020 20 1964 19 1994 19 1996 19 2016 19 1966 17 1975 17 2001 17 2017 17 1978 16 2014 16 1981 15 1984 15 1977 14 1979 14 1989 14 1972 13 1973 13 1980 13 1982 13 1987 13 1991 13 1983 12 1985 12 1970 10 1986 10 1969 9 1974 9 1976 9 1968 8 1971 8 1988 4
  18. Between the see-through pants and the smaller lettering of the names on the back of the jersey, this seems like a New Coke-level mistake. I wonder if they'll do anything about it before Opening Day. I read that some players have been wearing last year's pants in spring training games, but I assume they wouldn't be allowed to do that in the regular season.
  19. He's in the Honor Group of the Day.
  20. It's hard to believe. When these sites launched, we didn't even know who David Wright was.
  21. She couldn't resist the chance to meet King Friday XIII.
  22. He signed with the Phillies on March 2, 2019. (That was a pivotal day in my personal life, it just so happens! And not because of Bryce Harper or the Phiilies.)
  23. What was it that the Dodgers did with Ohtani, to make it so his contract would come with less of a luxury penalty? I'm wondering if maybe the Mets might be able to sign Montgomery or Snell to a one-year deal with deferred money or something similar, which would prevent the contract from costing the estimated $70 million for 2024.
  24. I only got eight out of nine today, but I'm pretty sure I got gypped. For Played in Negro Leagues/Played Outfield Min. 1 Game, I chose Hank Aaron. I can't see why that would have been rejected.
