  1. April's Schaefer standings, through Sunday's game, show some interesting leaders. If you want to mentally update the numbers through last night's game, figure a four-point increase for both Pelfrey and Wright. That would put Pelfrey into the lead for Pitcher of the Month, and Wright very close to Pagan for Player of the Month. (Keep in mind that Santana's March 31 game isn't included. For the full season totals, including that one game, Johan is the overall leading point getter, ahead of Pagan 11.09 to 10.76.) 3. What happens to players who are transferred to the Brooklyn roster? The Cyclones don't begin play for another six weeks or so. Do they stay in Florida and do extended spring training?

  6. If m.e.t.b.o.t. is thinking of amending its April 13 Schaefer voting, it had better do so very quickly, as the thread is due to be closed at my first opportunity this morning.
  7. Ron Hodges, Mo Vaughn, and Butch Huskey are all getting a lot of UMDB hits today. Not Roger McDowell, though.
  8. Box score Pelfrey 5 Wright 4 Reyes 1
  9. You're right, they're pretty much pretending the first Hulk movie didn't happen. I don't see any reason for a "rule" preventing such a thing. The 2003 Hulk movie was horrendous. I want a good Hulk movie, and at least we're getting a second chance at one. I'm more excited about Iron Man, though. Then Hulk, then Dark Knight.

  11. Casey Hodges just has to become a Met. Can they somehow pretend that he's Dominican and sign him NOW, without having to draft him?
  12. I just rediscovered that old Casey Hodges post (from 2004) a minute or so before you mentioned it, Johnny. Lotsa memories of Ron Hodges here: http://leaptoad.com/mets/profile.php?PlayerCode=0209&tabno=7 He named his son Casey! Casey Hodges! How great is THAT!?! (Casey mentions that he was born in 1986, so his dad has been an ex-Met all his life.) http://www.mountolivecollege.edu/home/dshulimson/images_athletics/Baseball/hodges.jpg Casey Hodges
  13. I'll never forget how the Washington Nationals, more than anyone else (other than the Mets) kept us out of the 2007 playoffs. No hard feelings (they were doing their jobs) but I'd like to see the Mets some day return the favor.
  14. I suspect that most of the current Mets have no idea who Ron Hodges is. Ron's son, by the way, recently posted an entry on his dad's UMDB page.

  16. You get the pitchforks, I'll get the torches. Or is it my turn to do pitchforks?

I used to do that all the time when I was a Sunday season ticket holder and lived on Long Island. I'd make a left turn out of my parking spot, a right on Main Street and that would lead me right to the LIE.
  18. Wow! I had forgotten all about Purulator Courier. And it's been many many years since I last heard the voice of Steve Zabriskie.
  19. I was there on Sunday. Had the best seats I've had in a long time. Loge reserved seats in Section 1, right behind home plate. We were in Row H, which was a little too far back, but about halfway through we moved up to Row E, which was really great. This was the first time at Shea for my daughter (6) and since my wife wasn't with us, I feared the bathroom situation. But there's a Family Restroom in the Loge right near the entrance to Section 5 and that worked very nicely. Had to take the local from Grand Central to Willets Point, which takes forever, but after the game we caught the Mets Express and got back to Manhattan very quickly. A very nice (and very expensive) day. (Slices of Sbarros pizza were $6 each. A cardboard cup of soda, maybe about ten ounces, $3.75. A Jose Reyes kids size t-shirt for my daughter, $22...)
  20. I really don't think you want to get in that parking lot. I'd find a place along the 7 line that you could park. This wouldn't work for you (I don't think) but when I go I park in Manhattan at 1st Avenue and 38th Street ($10 for the whole day) and take the subway from Grand Central.
  21. I think we're supposed to see it as a good thing, as a countdown to Citi Field, but I'm with Namor. It's a countdown to the demise of Shea Stadium, and I see that as a bad thing.
