  1. Yes, it is. What would have been even cooler would have been to keep the structure's original name. "Come see the Padres take on the visiting Giants tonight at the Western Metal Supply Building!"

  3. AG/DC wrote: How much more gayer could it be? It could have had Piazza in it.
  4. Yeah, but you can't see any of that stuff from your seat at Shea, unless you're sitting way up high, and in that case, it's far in the distance. I still don't know what they're going to build in the area around Citi Field after Shea is gone, but hopefully you'll be able to see some outside urban architecture from within the ballpark. Real, pre-existing buildings would be better, but there just aren't any. (I love what they did with that old building in San Diego's stadium.)
  5. It is indeed. When it's time for me to close out and tally a game, start to finish takes no more than a couple of minutes. If not for the magic spreadsheet, I wouldn't be doing this stuff! It would be work!
  6. No, the spreadsheet knows how to avoid those editing comments. It will also point out the misspelling, which will remind me to fix it. So it's no big deal either way.
  7. ="metsmarathon"]soupcan misspelled pelfrey, too. does that merit a yelling? HE DID WHAT???
  8. I have a black and blue cap (as well as an all-blue one) and I like it well enough. I hate the all-black caps, though, and the black jerseys. The all-black look isn't in itself bad. It looks good on those t-shirts with the players' names and numbers on the back. (My son has one for David Wright and my daughter wants one for Jose Reyes. And I'll be glad to buy one for her when I see one in her size.) And I'm okay with the black road jerseys getting occasional use. But home jerseys should be bright white. They should gleam against the green grass and make the visiting team look drab in comparison. Also, as AG so accurately pointed out above, the merchandise will sell if it looks good. It doesn't matter if the players are actually wearing it on the field. When the Mets are on the field at Shea (or at Citi, gonna have to get used to that) I want them in blue caps and pinstripes.
  9. I think it looks good out there. Makes Shea look like the urban stadium that it never really was.
  10. I figure you're either referring to the comments by *62, which are okay, since they're within the same post that contains the votes and they don't contain any numeric characters, or to Johnny Lunchbucket awarding 10.2 points. I won't "yell" over that one either; my magic spreadsheet will automatically pro-rate the points. I'm glad to see the levels of participation have been pretty good so far, even in games that the Mets have lost. Meanwhile, voting for Tuesday afternoon's home opening loss to the Phillies will close early on Friday morning: http://cranepoolforum.net/phpbb2/viewtopic.php?t=8637

I fear that the new uniform will be brick red and teal. (Or whatever the currently hip colors may be.) batmagadanleadoff wrote: Hey - is Tom Seaver getting a statute in front of Citi Field? Or is it not enough to be the greatest player ever in the history of the franchise and the best pitcher of your generation? The statue won't be of Seaver, but of Johnny Podres.
  12. Box score Pelfrey 3 Pagan 2 Reyes 2 Easley 2 Sosa 1
  13. Phillies are playing like the Mets play when they play the Phillies. I like this Bruntlett guy. I hope he plays tomorrow.
  14. He's Billy Wagner's agent. And a former Mets farmhand: http://leaptoad.com/mets/profile.php?PlayerCode=3K41
  15. The day that taser-bearing thugs start forcing the fans to sing along is the day that I start caring about this issue. There is so much noise at Shea, and so many distractions, that I find it hard to get worked up about one or another. Why is the song that they play in the 8th inning any more important than what the Mets do during all of the other inning breaks?
  16. Good for them! I'm always in favor of successful teams in Baltimore, Boston, Toronto, and Tampa.
  17. Hockey playoffs have started already? Don't they run until June?
  18. I'm considering a trip to Shea this weekend. Keeping an eye on the weather. I don't want to make the trip if rain seems likely. Sunday looks better than Saturday: ="National Weather Service"]Saturday: Occasional rain before noon, then rain likely and possibly a thunderstorm between noon and 3pm, then a chance of rain and thunderstorms after 3pm. High near 57. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New rainfall amounts between a half and three quarters of an inch possible. Sunday: A chance of showers. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 56. Chance of precipitation is 30%. This is the only time the Brewers come to town, isn't it? Would a Saturday rainout mean a Sunday doubleheader?
  19. I figure Delgado's error did more harm than the benefit provided by his home run, but I didn't think he deserved a zero. So I gave him a half point. Perez did very well. The only flaw was that he couldn't go deep enough into the game. I gave him 3.5. If he had finished the sixth, I probably would have given him a 4.

  21. I was looking at their roster yesterday wondering who might get the call if Luis Castillo lands on the DL. Would it be Tatis? Anderson Hernandez? Might it even be Argenis Reyes?
  22. Billy Wagner would scoff at my observation here, but it looks like, when the Mets play the Phillies, the entire team is trying not to lose. And last September, that feeling carried over into the games against the Marlins and the Nationals. They have to shake that approach in a hurry if they want 2008 to amount to anything.
  23. Yeah, it's not exactly "Touched by an Angel." So "Marge" is one of the girls in the office. I guess I'm not surprised that I didn't pick up on her name. I'll be rooting for her character to maybe have an affair with one of the office boors. Being on that show can be good for her career. The more lines she gets, the better for her.
  24. metsmarathon wrote: huh...? I "huh" as well. He's day to day. He hasn't been released. We still have as many as 642 games with Castillo at second base.
