  1. Okay, thanks. That's what I thought. I had completely forgotten the name of Mrs. de Roulet's husband.
  2. I'm confused, and I'm also not remembering my Mets genealogy as well as I might. Vincent De Roulet married a Whitney? I know that Joan Whitney married a Payson, and her daughter, Lorinda, married a De Roulet. Was Lorinda the Whitney they were referring to? (Her name was never Whitney, but she was a member of the Whitney family, of course.)
  3. Nobody would see the floggings. Their view would be obscured by the lap dancers.
  4. I wonder if MLB issues directives saying what the between-innings features should be, in some misguided belief that uniformity is desirable. (It is, after all, the approach they took with the team websites.) "Thou Shalt Have a Kiss-Cam" "Thou Shalt Have a Dugout Dance Contest" "Thou Shalt Have a T-Shirt Cannon" In the last 15 seasons, I've only attended games at Shea or in Philadelphia's two ballparks, so I don't have much sense of how much entertainment diversity is out there. I do know that the stuff they do at Phillies games seems a lot like the stuff they do at Mets games.
  5. Here it is. Game 1, Koosman: http://leaptoad.com/mets/gamedetail.php?gameno=1279 Game 2, Cardwell: http://leaptoad.com/mets/gamedetail.php?gameno=1280
  6. Cardwell and Koosman each had the RBI's in that doubleheader, but I don't think they came on homers.
  7. I'm not saying that to trade Endy would be unthinkable, but I think I'd still rather have him than Brady Clark.
  8. ="AG/DC"]Most all those things say the Mets and their culture are just like those of every other team. I see what you're saying, but how exceptional are the Mets, really? Or is the main distinction that they're the team we love and all the other teams are not? But following up on your point, there's really only one good candidate for an 8th-inning sing-along song: Meet the Mets. Does any other team have such a beloved anthem? It's fun, it's singable, it evokes great memories, and it's all ours. There are 29 other ballparks where they can sing Build Me Up Buttercup but there's only one where they can sing Meet the Mets.
  9. I doubt they'll be inviting Grant to Shea for the countdown, though, since he's dead at the present time.
  10. 1. As I recall, the Mets made Olerud a competitive offer. They weren't able to overcome his desire to play for his hometown Mariners. You're implying that they preferred Zeile to Olerud, and that's just not true. Maybe they should have pushed a little harder to keep Olerud, but in the era of free agency, no team can just decide to "keep" a player. Sometimes they're set on leaving. 2. Alomar was NOT seven years over the hill when the Mets got him for the 2002 season. He was still seen as a top player. (Look at his 2001 stats in Cleveland.) Nobody at the time was saying that getting Alomar was a bad move. It turned out badly, but it was not a foolish trade by any means.
  11. Voting for Thursday's 12-inning win over the Phillies will close early on Tuesday morning: http://cranepoolforum.net/phpbb2/viewtopic.php?t=8665

  13. Why? Because on any given day, there are thousands of people in the crowd who don't give a damn about the game, and these other attractions (or distractions) help them have a good time, and make them more likely to return in the future. I see nothing offensive at all about a sing-along, as long as it happens between innings. Same is true of dugout dance competitions, trivia games, Professor Reyes, t-shirt cannons, etc.

  15. I was there too. The Buttercup sing-along was fun, but some people hated it so much they booed throughout. The "Take Me Out to the Ballgame" sing-along was a flop, though. Previous versions were fun, but now they have kids singing it. It's cute and all, but the pace is all wrong and it's very difficult to sing along to.
  16. Alou may be sooner rather than later. He's looking to be playing rehab games in St. Lucie this week.

  19. And maybe that's what will happen. From today's Newsday: David Lennon wrote: Farm report: Major move in Nieses future? By trading their top prospects to the Minnesota Twins for Johan Santana during the offseason, the Mets may have helped clear the path for another lefthander, Jon Niese, to join them in the majors at some point this season. Niese filled in for Pedro Martinez in his only Grapefruit League start, throwing two no-hit innings against the Dodgers, and the 21-year-old lefthander has stayed on a roll at Double-A Binghamton. Niese is 1-0 with a 0.82 ERA in two starts, with 10 strikeouts and one walk in 11 innings. He's allowed only three hits, including a home run, and opponents are batting .083 against him. A seventh-round pick in 2005, Niese has four pitches, including an excellent curve, and has thrived under the Mets' plans to fast-track him through the minors. He had a 2.34 ERA in his final eight starts for Class A St. Lucie last season. "Last year he came a long way and he's responded well," said Tony Bernazard, the club's vice president for player development. "We'll see how long he can stay on that pace."
  20. Johnny Lunchbucket awarded 10.2 points. 22. After rereading Ken Sanders' own post from 2004, I thought, hey, let me add it to Ken's Wikipedia page. But there isn't all that much to Ken's page. I remember that Ken Sanders was a Met, but I don't know much more about him that could flesh out his page. I didn't even remember the injury that's mentioned prominently on his UMDB page!
