  1. The Mets had the infield in with the bases loaded for the previous batter. Gary was wondering why they didn't play back for the inning-ending double play. The batter hits a hard grounder to short which could have been two had the infield been at DP depth. Instead Jose gets the force at home; then Casanova's throw to first wasn't in time. The decision to play the infield in ends up leading to a grand slam.
  2. Grand Salami. 8-1 Cubs.
  3. HahnSolo wrote: As Fred Imus might say, "this team can't suck enough." I'm going to invoke that old axiom about how you're never as bad as you look when you're losing. Just a couple of days ago, the Mets were riding a five-game winning streak and were on the verge of sweeping the Phillies at Citizens Bank Park. They've had a dreadful two days in Chicago. But there's still some hope that they'll be a good team this year. (As I'm typing this, Ramirez scares me by almost hitting a three-run homer.)
  4. Cubs get the leadoff runner on in the 6th and Schoeneweis will now replace Figueroa.
  5. His spring training made me think that he'd be another Ramon Castro, but it's not happening.
  6. But he grounds to short. Inning over. 3-1 Cubs.
  7. He reaches on an odd-looking force play, and a run scores.
  8. With Moises beckoning, Brady's job is in danger. He can do himself and the team some good here...
  9. Easley drops one in to right, runners advance. Bases loaded. One out.
  10. Well, "almost" isn't all that accurate. My bad.
  11. With one out, Beltran walks and Delgado smokes a hard single to right. It was hit so hard they almost had a force on Beltran at second.
  12. Delgado seemed to go for the ball, but it was fielded by Easley. Easley went to throw to first, but nobody was there. Figueroa saw that he was needed and sprinted to first and got there to catch the throw, but he didn't beat the runner.
  13. Top of my head: King Kong (1933) Casablanca Duck Soup The Treasure of the Sierra Madre The Out-of-Towners (1970) Bull Durham Bride of Frankenstein The Desperate Hours High Noon The Untouchables
  14. Pagan kicks a ball around in right field and Fukudome scores the first run of the game. Two out, runner on second, 1-0 Cubs in the 4th.
  15. Beltran's still dangerous.
  16. Another pop up. (And a near collision, but the ball is caught.) Inning over.
  17. And it's a pop up to shortstop. No DP, but no run comes home either. Easley is up.
  18. Beltran walks too. Delgado, bases loaded, one out. I smell a double play. I'm thinking a grand slam will be nicer. (And will smell nicer too.)
  19. Lilly, pitching carefully to Wright, walks him. Now Beltran...
  20. And there's the actual extra-base hit. Pagan doubles into the gap between right and center.
  21. You can try! For a second I thought Pagan had plunked in an extra base hit, but it was foul by a fair amount.
  22. Still scoreless through 3. I wonder if Figueroa's family is back at Shea, watching the game on TV from Billy Wagner's luxury box?
  23. How about a caught looking and a GDP? Mets get out of it!
