  1. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marvel_616 It seems (from this article, at least) that the 616 term is pretty obscure, at least within the stories themselves. Now I'm less surprised that I never heard of it.
  2. That's why I said "sometimes."
  3. Are these being passed off as authentic jerseys? Or are they just being sold as ugly Mets shirts?
  4. I have no problem either with what Delgado did, or more accurately, neglected to do. If I were him I might have done a little half wave to the crowd, but it's really no big deal either way. Those who are thumping this issue are just trying to make a story, as we well know. It's sometimes a wonder that anyone opts to play in New York. I also had the Braves telecast yesterday (first time this year I didn't get SNY on my Extra Innings package) and during the telecast the Atlanta announcers were marveling at the amount of local media. The Braves have only two beat reporters, one for the Journal-Constitution and one from MLB.com. They both do have to file stories every day, but with less of a din from other writers, I wonder if there's less pressure to make meaningless noise? (The only way to know, I guess, is to closely monitor what the Braves beat writers write, but I have no interest in actually doing that.)
  5. I'll have to wiki Marvel 616 to get the scoop. I'm not paying as close attention to the Marvel Universe(s) as I once did, and this term has, up until now, completely eluded me.
  6. If for no other reason, Roger Clemens should go to jail for naming his children after Donald Duck's nephews. And, "partied with Monica Lewinsky and Michael Jordan"? Wow. I can see why he borrowed a cigar from Jordan instead of from Monica...
  7. Here are the threads where we discussed the possiblities of the Mets getting Zito and Posada
  8. National Weather Service wrote: Today: Showers, with thunderstorms also possible after noon. Some of the storms could produce heavy rain. High near 57. South wind around 18 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New rainfall amounts between a half and three quarters of an inch possible. Tonight: Occasional showers and possibly a thunderstorm before 2am, then showers likely. Some of the storms could produce heavy rain. Low around 49. South wind 9 to 16 mph becoming west. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New rainfall amounts between three quarters and one inch possible. Hopefully, if they cancel this game, they'll do it early, so Santana doesn't get wasted and can go tomorrow. Unless there's a scheduling quirk that I'm not aware of (and that's always possible) then this is the Pirates only visit to Shea this year, so we'd probably be looking at a doubleheader on Tuesday or Wednesday. (Wednesday's forecast is better.)
  9. Voting for Thursday night's 10-5 loss in Washington will close on Tuesday morning. So far, only seven votes have been entered, which, I think, is a low for the season. If you plan to vote, and your name isn't *62, Benjamin Grimm, Fman99, Frayed Knot, KC, themetfairy, or Triple Dee, please try to do so today. All three games from the weekend series against the Braves at Shea will close on Wednesday morning. (I'll post another reminder, with links, tomorrow.) Finally, April is drawing to a close this week, so we can expect to see the first Player of the Month and Pitcher of the Month annoucment of 2008 by the weekend, or Monday at the latest.
  10. That's what I'm hoping! But no matter what she confesses to, Dan Burton won't believe her.
  11. I don't doubt it. I'd like to think that Omar wouldn't have offered as many years, though. But given that he gave Luis Castillo four years, he very well may have been willing to do the same with Posada.
  12. If he denies having sex with a 15-year-old then I have to believe him, because he's a "titan."
  13. Why do they call it "616"?
  14. SteveJRogers wrote: Not to mention the pesky problem that Banner in the show was "David" not "Bruce" That's easy enough to ignore. Marvel 616? I'm not familiar with that. What does that mean?

  16. Reed was bumbling and confused, almost a nutty professor. He should be smart and confident, a guy who always knows the answer right away, and acts quickly. I wrote more about this in our discussion of the original movie, but I can't find it.
  17. They got Doom completely wrong. And they botched Reed as well. That movie would have been much better if it was made by people who knew and understood the characters. It clearly wasn't. (They did a great job with the Thing, though.)
  18. Who are the others? I'd nominate Marty Noble, for sure.

  20. This is the first time in my life I've ever liked Church.
  21. True. I don't get worked up over such things. The important thing is to be true to the characters and the spirit of the stories.
  22. Weren't there reports a few years ago that Saddam Hussein was working on engineering a virulent thumb virus?

  25. No. It will interpret the minus sign as a hyphen and discard it. So if you give someone -4, they get 4.
