  1. Perez is a talented pitcher, and I'd have no problem with him returning next year. But if he doesn't, he doesn't. I'm not at all convinced that he's irreplaceable.
  2. ="metirish"]That should be erratic, no idea what I was thinking right there. Oh, I think I know what you were thinking! Very Freudian!
  3. I think Indy Jones is being celebrated throughout MLB that day. They had a similar arrangement with Spider-Man a few years ago. (I don't remember if it was for the second movie or the third.) They were going to put Spidey on the bases, but there was an uproar that led them to cancel that plan.
  4. No, of course not. I'll get to him.
  5. Thanks everyone for all the info. I've entered a few of the relationships into the database, and will get to the others as time allows. Some examples: John Maine Moises Alou Tug McGraw Mookie Wilson
  6. Remember, when making such apologies, you need to have your lips tucked into a frown. Shows sincerity, or something.
  7. AG/DC wrote: The names Camdyn and Parker are homages to Oriole Park at Camden Yards. And as we know, Chipper Jones named his child (daughter?) after Shea Stadium. I hope this trend doesn't continue as we move forward into the corporate-name era. I'd hate to think of a generation of children with names like "Progressive" or "Petco." Or worse, "Citi" which rhymes with "shitty" for goodness sakes!
  8. That item piqued my curiosity as well. I wonder what's up? Peterson does comment to the press, I'm sure. I've read many of his quotes. Maybe he's looking to lay low on this Wagner/Perez thing?
  9. I'm much happier with Castillo as an 8 hitter than as a 2. As an 8, I think he's pretty "Old Mutual." He might be one of the better 8th-place hitters in the league. (And no, I don't know who the other 15 are, but my off-the-cuff guess is that he's probably in the upper half.)
  10. Santana 3.8 Sosa 1 Wright 1 Reyes 1 Alou 1 Anderson 1 Castillo 0.4 Beltran 0.4 Church 0.4
  11. If anyone courts the "metric system" vote, they'll have about 15 votes in their pocket.
  12. We got our first VCR for Christmas in 1981. (Just about five weeks before David Letterman debuted. Very providential timing!) We were the first family we knew who had one. At that time, it was a major investment; ours cost almost $1,000! I still have that VCR. It's been a long time since it's been used, of course, but I'm keeping it as a novelty/collectible.
  13. Triple Dee wrote: One of the criticisms of Iron Man that I forgot to make in my initial review was that the violence was really toned down. I'm skeptical whether the franchise will live to a 3rd film, if Favreau continues with this approach. Having seen the movie, I now suspect that you're taking the piss here. Oh, and by the way, I thoroughly enjoyed Iron Man. Moves right to the top of the list of Marvel movies. (And when you go, don't leave before the credits end. There's one additional scene at the very very end.)
  14. Delgado 3 Heilman 1 Sosa 1
  15. Yeah, there's a script that does all the totaling, and it breaks it down strictly by month. So Santana will have to content himself with Pitcher of the Month for April, but he's also Player AND Pitcher of the Month for March, I suppose.
  16. SCHAEFER METS PLAYER AND PITCHER OF THE MONTH, APRIL 2008 The Schaefer Mets Player of the Month for April 2008 is DAVID WRIGHT. This is the sixth time that David has been Player of the Month. (He won three times in 2007, and once each in 2005 and 2006. He's also won the Player of the Year award in each of the past three seasons.) David's productive first half of April allowed him to withstand a challenge from Ryan Church, who also had a strong month. Wright led the Mets in April with 4 home runs, 20 rbi, 47 total bases, a slugging percentage of .511 and an OBP of .409. His 8 doubles in April tied for the club lead with Carlos Beltran, as did his 22 walks. Church led the Mets with a .319 batting average and had 3 home runs and 18 rbi. The Schaefer Mets Pitcher of the Month for April 2008 is JOHAN SANTANA. This is, obviously, Johan's first win. He narrowly missed outpolling David Wright as Player of the Month. (The fact that his first game of the season was played on March 31 was a factor.) Santana was 2-2 with a team-best 3.24 ERA in five April starts. He led the Mets with 31 strikeouts and only walked 6. He also led the club in innings pitched with 33.1. 18. Of course he didn't. Where'd THAT come from?
  19. Frayed Knot wrote: Stupid send with no one out and I REALLY hope they didn't do it just so as to complete a fucking cycle. I agree. The cycle is meaningless, just a statistical quirk. Players shouldn't do anything on the field to make a cycle happen. There was a player a few years ago who stopped at first on a clean double because he already had a double, triple, and homer. If I was his manager I would have pulled him off the field for that stunt. (I can't remember who it was; something makes me think it was a San Diego Padre, but I'm not sure.)

  21. So I've finally proven my long-standing theory that there are at least four Jerry Grote's. Imagine how great it would be to shake hands with all of them!
  22. Yeah, I also think it was shampoo.
  23. So I guess that's Gaspar between Garrett and Gentry. Who's that between McGraw and Ryan? That must be Al Weis as the second-to-last in the front row, but who's the last guy? Is it Doogie Howser?
  24. ="batmagadanleadoff"] Let's see if I can name those Mets: Back row: Agee, Boswell, Grote, Charles, Clendennon, Dyer, Garrett, don't know, Gentry, Grote again. Middle row: Harrelson, don't know, Koosman, Kranepool, don't know, McGraw, don't know, Ryan, Seaver. Front row: Shamsky, Swoboda, don't know, don't know, Piggy, Rube Walker, don't know, don't know.
