  1. I'd like to see Tatis on the Mets, but I'm not sure at whose expense. Vargas and Tatis replacing Pagan and Castillo would leave us short one position player, but I suppose that one only be for Wednesday. Tatis would stick, I assume, and Vargas would be replaced by... whom?
  2. This will probably provoke an international incident. Before the summer is out, I'll bet we're at war with Bermuda.
  3. Joba is ridiculous, though. If I was an opposing hitter, I'd do a dance and pump my fists every time he walked me, regardless of the score or the situation.
  4. Well, another way of looking at it is that you're more likely to get two wins with Pelfrey vs. Washington and Santana vs. the Yankees than you would with Santana vs. Washington and Pelfrey vs. the Yankees.
  5. "Faith" and "hope" aren't the same thing.
  6. Alou 1.4 Wright 1.2 Beltran 1 Easley 1.5 Reyes 1
  7. Schaefer participation is at record lows. I'm beginning to think that I may not bother doing this in 2009, but we'll see how the rest of the season goes. Anyway, all three games from the weekend series against the Reds at Shea will close tomorrow morning. Saturday afternoon Saturday night Sunday afternoon

  14. Harrelson, see above. HoJo: 130th out of 135, 57.47%
  15. Let's see if we can't get Pete Tucci on the list.
  16. Johnny Lunchbucket gets credited with an assist.
  17. Frayed Knot wrote: Bud Harrelson If my arbitrary cutoff was 1,000 at bats instead of 500, Bud Harrelson would be our winner. As it is, he comes in in sixth place with an 83.09%. (And Darryl Strawberry, instead of being second best, would be the all-time champ, but by a narrow margin.)
  18. DING DING DING! Jose Oquendo had a singles percentage of 88.39, the highest in Mets history for players with over 500 at bats. (He had 517 at bats and 112 hits, 99 of which were singles.)
  19. Yep. Once your guess is acknowledged, you can go again. (I'm just trying to avoid having somebody tossing out dozens of guesses at a time.)
  20. AG/DC wrote: Highest percentage of hits for singles would be Tim Foli. Highest percentage of hits for singles would be David Arthur Kingman. Kingman: see above. Foli: 23rd place, 78.86% And yes, the three pitchers are Koosman (4th place), Gooden (13th) and Seaver (14th)

  23. I wouldn't be surprised to see Delgado get a game as DH. But I think I'd go with Alou for at least two of the games, if not all three.
  24. Okay, Trivia Time! Inspired by the Jason Tyner thread, I generated a list of the single-iest Mets of all time. I took only the players with 500 or more at bats as a Met. (Through Sunday's game, that would be 135 players.) I then calculated their "singles percentage." In other words, what percentage of their hits were singles. The "winner" had a singles percentage of 88.39. There are twenty Mets with an all-time singles percentage over 80. Three of them are pitchers. (The three pitchers rank number 4, 13, and 14.) The all-time lowest singles percentage belongs to a player whose 50.51 is almost four points better than the runner-up, who has a 54.24. Question: Who's the guy with the highest, who's the guy with the lowest? Please make only two guesses each (one for high and one for low) until your guess is acknowledged. If you make any additional guesses I'll probably ignore them, just for sanity's sake. When I respond to your guess, I'll give the actual rank of the player. When this little quiz runs its course, I'll post the full list of 135 players. GO!
