  1. I'm sure she recognized him immediately!
  2. I guess he drove a Ford.
  3. Yes. I don't think Figueroa's spot in the rotation is, or ought to be, all that secure.
  4. Any word on Casanova yet? When will we know whether or not he's cleared waivers. I hope he does. He's the best third-string catcher the Mets have had in a while, and I'd like him to be around next time Schneider or Castro gets hurt.
  5. Well, not for the short term, no, since Smith has been pitching better than Sosa. But if you take the position that Sosa is a guy worth keeping, then this move would allow them to do so, and they'd be better off in the long run. I wouldn't just toss Sosa away; he served them well for the most part last year. But I'm also not sure how much he has to offer in the future. But we'll have to see. I think Smith will be back, and sooner rather than later.
  6. Or perhaps Bostick will replace Smith, and then Wise would replace Bostick. And then, maybe after the ten days are up, Smith could replace Sosa.
  7. The NWS forecast for today looks rather promising: ]This Afternoon: A chance of rain, mainly before 2pm. Cloudy, with a high near 53. Windy, with a east wind between 25 and 29 mph, with gusts as high as 40 mph. Chance of precipitation is 50%. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. Tonight: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 48. Breezy, with a north wind between 17 and 25 mph.
  8. Well, the doubleheader wouldn't have to be on Thursday; it could be on Tuesday or Wednesday just as easily.
  9. That was the first game I ever attended without a grownup. My dad worked in Jackson Heights, and my friend and I drove in to work with him from Long Island. He dropped us off at Shea and then we took a bus back to his shop after the game.
  10. MFS62 wrote: Ah, maybe that's why it didn't mean anything to me. I don't think I would recognize a Ramones song if one were playing right now. Or recognize one of the Ramones if one should knock at my door. Thanks. Later I feel out of step too. That image seems to mean something to everyone but me! (My first thought was that it was the National League logo.)
  11. I'd say Braves.
  12. ="MFS62"] Mets fans have always looked to the future with hope.
  13. I was at this game: ] Tom's Return, 8/21/77 Seaver vs. Koosman; I so badly wanted Jerry to win that game. Oh well. I don't recall being at any of the other games G listed.
  14. Even if it doesn't happen, this gives us a glimpse at the current state of the depth chart. If there's a rainout tonight, and the Mets schedule a doubleheader on Wednesday or Thursday, then Bostick could still get his shot. Otherwise, the Mets would likely schedule the makeup game on Monday, September 8 or Thursday, September 11. (The Nationals next and final visit to Shea is on the 9th and the 10th, with off days on either side.) Me, I'd rather play a doubleheader this week and leave the days off for September when they may be desperately needed.
  15. In today's Daily News, Adam Rubin is saying that Adam Bostick is Wednesday's likely starter if there's no rainout today or tomorrow. He'd come to Shea for his cup of coffee, and then return to New Orleans right after. (He was pulled early from his last start for the Zephyrs, presumably in anticipation that he might be needed in Flushing.)
  16. Metfairy, you voted for Heilman in Sunday's game, but he didn't play. Can you please edit? Thanks! http://cranepoolforum.qwknetllc.com/phpbb2/viewtopic.php?t=8955

  20. My first game ever at Shea was also a Reds game. It was in 1971, Gary Gentry starting, Cleon Jones celebrating a birthday. Mets lost 1-0.
  21. UMDB visitors vote with their mouses. These are, in order, the 20 most clicked on UMDB box scores for games that the Cincinnati Reds played at Shea Stadium. I haven't cross-checked it with Fafif's list, but I'm sure there's some overlap: October 08, 1973 Mets 9, Reds 2 October 10, 1973 Mets 7, Reds 2 August 20, 1973 Mets 3, Reds 8 October 09, 1973 Mets 1, Reds 2 June 07, 1977 Mets 8, Reds 0 May 06, 1983 Mets 7, Reds 4 May 06, 1980 Mets 10, Reds 12 April 11, 1971 Mets 1, Reds 0 May 02, 1973 Mets 1, Reds 6 July 07, 1984 Mets 14, Reds 4 August 18, 1973 Mets 12, Reds 1 April 14, 1985 Mets 4, Reds 0 July 21, 1997 Mets 5, Reds 3 August 15, 1976 Mets 1, Reds 0 July 08, 1984 Mets 7, Reds 3 July 08, 1989 Mets 8, Reds 3 July 09, 1986 Mets 1, Reds 11 July 20, 1997 Mets 10, Reds 1 July 22, 1985 Mets 1, Reds 5 May 05, 1976 Mets 0, Reds 2
  22. Because of the consecutive off-days, we're actually in a rare situation where all games have been tallied. (Except, of course, for the one that's currently underway.) 24. They should have asked that on September 30 of last year. My preference would be to see him replaced, but a better scenario would be for the Mets to win so many games that the reevaluation becomes moot.
  25. Oh. I'm glad I'm behind on my dues.
