  3. Different era, though. How does Johan Santana merit a vote? Only two-plus years in the division, and one of them injury-shortened.
  4. Interesting choice of photo there. Is that what's known as a "snow job"?
  5. Carlton and Glavine. If I had a third vote, it would have gone to Koosman.
  6. I voted Seaver, Maddux, and Smoltz. (I really wanted to vote for Gooden, but Smoltz got it done for a longer period. A much longer period.) If we weren't limited to divisional play, I would have voted for Bob Gibson.
  7. J. 9. He's in the hunt for Schaefer Mets Player of the Month. He won't win the prize if he doesn't play. And he knows it!
  10. Just like in center field, my vote matches Namor's.
  11. I voted for Parker and Guerrero. I would have voted for Clemente, but, as Edgy noted, we're only looking at four years of his career.
  12. Hernandez and Stargell. Olerud only spent three years in the NL East. I never gave him a moment's consideration.
  13. I remember when I thought a mid-May return was pessimistic.
  14. John Cougar Lunchbucket wrote: He's a hell of a player. Because of Pagan, there's been a lot less talk/angst regarding Carlos Beltran.
  15. Edgy DC wrote: One of those '69 was a combined shutout, though, right? With Ryan and Taylor and stuff? I didn't check for complete games; I only looked for games where the opposing score was zero.
  16. Voting for the middle game of the mid-week blankfest against the Phillies will close over the weekend. Only seven voters so far (themetfairy, Benjamin Grimm, Edgy DC, Ashie62, G-Fafif, John Cougar Lunchbucket, and Fman99), which is kind of light for a Mets win. If you have votes still to cast, please try to get them in today. Schaefer POTG 5/26/10 - Mets 5, Phillies 0 This month's race is especially tight. After today's tallying, there is less than a full point separating the top five contenders for Player of the Month. (The first-place guy has 15.37 points, and the fifth-place guy has 14.42.) There's no suspense about the Reliever of the Month, but two contenders for Pitcher of the Month; Johan Santana has his fate in his own left arm as he takes the mound in Milwaukee tonight. Look for POTM announcements at the end of next week.

  18. I just posted this on the UMDB Facebook page, but wanted to share it here as well: Ultimate Mets Database The past three days marks only the second time in Mets history that they won three consecutive shutouts over the same team. The last time was in September 1969, also against the Phillies. Those three games had followed a shutout against St. Louis. That 1969 stretch was the only time (at least, hopefully, until tonight) that the Mets had won four consecutive shutouts. 5 minutes ago Comment LikeUnlike Promote Ultimate Mets Database The 1969 shutouts were won by Gentry, Koosman, Seaver, and Gentry. 4 minutes ago Ultimate Mets Database The last time the Mets won three shutouts in a row was in April of 1988, when they beat the Expos (Darling), Expos (Ojeda), and Cardinals (Gooden). 3 minutes ago Ultimate Mets Database They also had three-shutout stretches in May 1985, June 1984, May 1970, and September 1969. Those three shutouts in 1969 are in addition to the four in a row that occurred later the same month. (That was quite a month for the Mets.) The three-in-a-row involved Gentry shutting out Montreal on the 11th, and the famous pair of Koosman/Cardwell 1-0 wins in a doubleheader in Pittsburgh on the 12th. 2 seconds ago
