  2. Well, no. Niese may be out for a while. And Oliver could possibly pitch his way into the rotation at John Maine's expense.

  5. Really trivial trivia: I noticed that the winning pitcher, the losing pitcher, and the pitcher who got the save in this game all had last naems starting with the same letter. This is only the 13th time in Mets history that this has happened! And the first time that the letter in question was the letter N. +------------+----+--------------+-------------------------------------------------------+ | 1972-08-02 | L | Phillies | Scarce-Seaver-Selma | | 1972-10-04 | W | Expos | Matlack-Moore-McGraw | | 1973-07-03 | L | Expos | McAnally-McAndrew-Marshall | | 1980-08-31 | L | Giants | Montefusco-Miller-Minton | | 1983-09-24 | W | Cubs | Seaver-Schulze-Sisk | | 1985-06-02 | W | Padres | Schiraldi-Show-Sisk | | 1989-09-06 | L | Cardinals | DiPino-Darling-Dayley | | 1994-04-18 | L | Padres | Harris-Hurst-Hoffman | | 1995-06-09 | L | Padres | Hamilton-Harnisch-Hoffman | | 2000-06-20 | L | Phillies | Brock-Benitez-Brantley | | 2002-07-05 | W | Marlins | Bacsik-Burnett-Benitez | | 2008-04-06 | L | Braves | Smoltz-Santana-Soriano | | 2010-05-16 | L | Marlins | Nolasco-Niese-Nez | +------------+----+--------------+-------------------------------------------------------+

  9. Oooh, that sounds ominous. Somebody should inform Jeff that Atlanta is in the same time zone as New York. I wonder if Jeff will be wearing his hardhat?

  11. They should just play "Send in the Clowns" for each player in the Mets lineup.
  12. If the Mets want to hire a psychotic nutjob, they already have Wally Backman in house.
  13. Edgy DC wrote: They'd go a long way by adding a reliable starting pitcher and a productive bat. Sure, but that's essentially true of every team ever. But it's especially true of teams that have sucky pitching and sucky hitting.
  14. Edgy DC wrote: I'd definitely think hitting, lads. They'd go a long way by adding a reliable starting pitcher and a productive bat. At what position would that batter play? Right field appears to be the best place to start. I don't see it happening at left field, shortstop, or third base any time soon. First base seems fine. That leaves center field, catcher, and second base. By how much can they reasonably upgrade over Pagan, Barajas, and/or Castillo while the season is ongoing?
  15. Here's something to crank up our collective angst: I don't believe this is the case, but... What if Omar is going to Atlanta to negotiate with John Smoltz?
