Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted October 28, 2017 Posted October 28, 2017 So with Darvish getting rolled in the early innings of Game 3 here an exiting with the score 4-0 Houston after recording just 5 outs, you think maybe Dave Roberts regrets pulling Rich Hill in Game 2after just 4 innings/1 Run/3 Hits/60 Pitches and therefore leaning on his pen for 8 pitchers and 7 innings including 20+ pitches from four different guys?

Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted October 28, 2017 Posted October 28, 2017 An extra-long five minute break in order to get in the 7th inning stretch dog and pony show, followed by a double on the first pitch of the bottom of the inning, followed by a pitching change and anothertwo minute break. IOW, one pitch over a seven minute span ... and they wonder why these games last four hours.
Fman99 Old-Timey Member Posted October 28, 2017 Posted October 28, 2017 I mean, it's 11:35, and I'm two strong drinks in (Friday, y'all!) and this game started 3 1/2 hours ago. And there are two innings left. Oh well.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted October 28, 2017 Posted October 28, 2017 (edited) From the last out in the top of the 7th inning until the last out in the bottom of the 7th [u:pl1vf46u]took 21 minutes to play -- 13 pitches were thrown during that time.[/u:pl1vf46u] Edited October 28, 2017 by Guest
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted October 28, 2017 Posted October 28, 2017 The big question on the docket at the moment is whether Houston 1B Yuli Gurriel's reported 'slant eyes' gesture towards You Darvish is going to land him a suspension heading into Game 4.I didn't hear anything about this until after the game and the only evidence I've seen is subject to interpretation, one of those things that you'll see if you're looking for it but wouldn't even notice otherwise.

I spoke with 4 baseball loving fans on Thursday and none saw the last innings of the epic game on Wednesday night. MLB loves us in May when our team is playing damn Milwaukee but doesn't give a crap about us when the "classic" is on. We'll be back in March but how does this grow the game? And F those new 6 second commercials. Guest 41Forever Guests Posted October 28, 2017 Posted October 28, 2017 That's a fascinating map. Wyoming needs people.I went to bed before the big extra-inning outburst, too.

Will he accept Gurriel's "apology" ("I love those people! I meant no disrespect. If Darvish was upset, I'm sorry"), suspend him for a game now to make a statement, or kick it down the road until he can meet with Gurriel in the off-season to "truly assess the situation")?http://www.latimes.com/sports/la-sp-dodgers-hernandez-20171027-story.html
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted October 28, 2017 Posted October 28, 2017 Any suspension would likely be served in April, because of the right to appeal.I haven't seen this incident. I'll have to look for a clip online.

Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted October 28, 2017 Posted October 28, 2017 Okay, I found the video. http://www.totalprosports.com/2017/10/27/astros-yuli-gurriel-appears-to-mock-yu-darvish-with-racist-gesture-during-world-series-video/It keeps looping, with a voice (sounds like Bob Costas?) saying over and over again "and that's the guilty party".Was the gesture mentioned at all during the telecast? Or is it something that caught fire with online commentary?

The chatter seemed to be mostly among mainstream media types there covering the game rather than just on-line agitators but I can't say exactly who 'started' it.I have to say that those I heard last night seemed to be much more sure that this was a 'thing' than I was once I saw it this morning. If this were a replay review I'd have to say there's not enoughevidence to convict Gurriel on the offense even though that may have been exactly what he was doing.

I actually think ads like that are part of the future. When I'm elected king of baseball (lifetime appointment of course) and outlaw the additional warmup pitches the incoming relief pitcher gets when he comes on in mid-inning, having short ads that runwhile the new pitcher comes in and without cutting from the action entirely is how the clubs are going to make up for any time they lose by not taking a full commercial break.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted October 28, 2017 Posted October 28, 2017 Five game suspension for Gurriel ... to be served next season.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted October 28, 2017 Posted October 28, 2017 I thought he'd get a stern warning. I guess a suspension next season for post-season infractions this season kind of follows the Roberto Alomar/Roger Clemens precedent, but I guess since it wasn't an on-field, in-competition infraction (like Clemens'), it makes sense.I saw Iggy Pop like 25 years ago. During "China Girl," he curled up with his head between his knees sorta fetal-style during the guitar solo, and when he came out of that position, he had his hands on the side of his head, violently pulling his skin back in the mock-Asian-eyes style. And even then, his skin was loosely attached to his face, so the effect was dramatic. I'm sure he was trying to make a meaningful statement, but for a guy with an Asian wife, singing a song about racism, it was an uncomfortable moment to be part of.
Fman99 Old-Timey Member Posted October 29, 2017 Posted October 29, 2017 Both managers stupid early with the hooks on the SP. Wood gives up his first hit and gets lifted, and Morton's thrown less than 80 pitches through six? Just dumb.
Fman99 Old-Timey Member Posted October 29, 2017 Posted October 29, 2017 And it costs them, as the bullpen coughs up the tying run on an RBI single to the gap.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted October 29, 2017 Posted October 29, 2017 Houston's erstwhile closer Ken Giles hasn't won himself many fans in this post-season.

It’s not subject to interpretation. And it’s pretty fucking noticeable. It’s a slur. There is no other interpretation. There should be no tolerance for it. Does he need to come out in blackface for the point to be clear?Did he not mean to offend anyone? He should start by not using slurs. Verbal or physical. Don’t know what’s worse. The slur itself or white america saying “what’s the big fucking deal”. I mean, he stood up for the anthem right? All good.
Guest LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Guests Posted October 29, 2017 Posted October 29, 2017 I wasn't watching the Gurriel thing. But I saw it later in the evening, after work. It's quick, but... come on.If you were watching at that moment, and you didn't notice, well... There is no mistaking what he was doing, man. So if you're missing his message, you're doing so because you can afford to or because you're opting out of noticing. Y'ever wonder what "white privilege" is? Well, bud, I don't mean to sound accusatory, but you're sitting in it.
