Edgy MD Site Manager Posted June 11, 2017 Posted June 11, 2017 Curious if we can get a Céspedes pinch-hit experience this inning.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted June 11, 2017 Posted June 11, 2017 I'd use Duda against the fastballer, but Grandy is hot and Dudie not.
Guest 41Forever Guests Posted June 11, 2017 Posted June 11, 2017 Don't think Curtis planned it that way, but I'll take it!
Guest d'Kong76 Guests Posted June 11, 2017 Posted June 11, 2017 Don't like batting for Conforto here, not one bit...

Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted June 11, 2017 Posted June 11, 2017 Wouldn't have done it either.Yeah you increase your chances of a GS, but that's not what you need there.
Lefty Specialist Old-Timey Member Posted June 11, 2017 Posted June 11, 2017 Yeah , I hope pinch hitting for Conforto doesn't come back to bite them.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted June 11, 2017 Posted June 11, 2017 I don't know man. It was the last call of the game. And the gap between #1 and #2 widens when the Braves were deploying a pitcher created in a secret government lab for the express purpose of retiring Conforto. And the Mets already put Grandy in the game, so there's no problem replacing Conforto. A justifiable move.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted June 11, 2017 Posted June 11, 2017 I mean, who do you think Krol wanted to face?
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted June 11, 2017 Posted June 11, 2017 As long as the tying run doesn't score on account of Grandy's (lack of) arm.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted June 11, 2017 Posted June 11, 2017 Or we can just have Addison take care of it on [crossout:hc1ep3yb]10[/crossout:hc1ep3yb] [crossout:hc1ep3yb]11[/crossout:hc1ep3yb] [crossout:hc1ep3yb]12[/crossout:hc1ep3yb] 13 pitches and go home.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted June 11, 2017 Posted June 11, 2017 Brilliant, gentlemen. THAT'S pitching.
MFS62 Old-Timey Member Posted June 11, 2017 Posted June 11, 2017 They are a whole better team to face when Freddy F'n Freeman isn't in their lineup.And I don't miss him a bit!Later
Lefty Specialist Old-Timey Member Posted June 11, 2017 Posted June 11, 2017 Yeah, it's kind of important to remember that this isn't exactly an offensive juggernaut out there, especially without FFF.Let's see if this continues against the Cubs and Nats.
Guest d'Kong76 Guests Posted June 11, 2017 Posted June 11, 2017 Didn't matter in the end, but the pinch hitting sends the wrong message in my mind. Hopefully Conforto doesn't think like me.

Hopefully Conforto doesn't think like me.the wrong message to Conforto ("we think you still can't hit lefties even though you have a .378 OBP against them this year") is its own separate issue. my issue is that there were far inferior hitters that you cold have pinch hit for earlier in the inning.
Guest d'Kong76 Guests Posted June 12, 2017 Posted June 12, 2017 Our burgeoning all-star stud shouldn't be pulled for anyone is my issue.I have far fewer managing issues with Collins as many but I think it wasa bad message. We'll see. I'd like to think Michael shouldn't be looking over his shoulder to see if Skip is gonna pass on him at this point.
Lefty Specialist Old-Timey Member Posted June 12, 2017 Posted June 12, 2017 In the moment I thought it was a bad move, but I think it'll be rarely repeated. Cespedes will be playing more and there won't be many PH appearances. And Conforto will be playing every day. More likely will be Conforto moving to left late in the game and Lagares coming in for defense in CF.
Guest LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Guests Posted June 12, 2017 Posted June 12, 2017 Ces for Conforto was weird, all the more so because a gimpy Ces or Grandy or pretty much anyone the Met bench has to offer at that point represents a pretty significant defensive downgrade in left, in what could still be a one-run game. Gave them-- arguably-- a better shot to put it away, but gave them significantly less cover if the gamble worked out suboptimally (which, given the odds of, y'know, baseball, was the way it was always more likely to turn out). Ended up okay, but, yeah, while it's not the most indefensible late-inning thing Terry has okayed in the last month, it probably wasn't advisable.
Fman99 Old-Timey Member Posted June 12, 2017 Posted June 12, 2017 We were listening on XM while driving home, but, I mean, he went super yard on a ball the day before with the bases loaded in the 9th. I didn't have a problem with him coming in against a lefty to try the same thing a second day in a row.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted June 12, 2017 Posted June 12, 2017 Considering this came followed an encouraging doubleheader sweep and fell on a Sunday, this victory may be one of the topsiest of the year. It's certainly rare to see the 2017 Mets come out of a weekend on anything like an upswing.
