No more than five steps per shakeup.

Barwis: To be replaced by that guy who criticizes Barwis in the video.

Sherlock: Relegated to the bullpen during games and replaced by Tom Goodwin at third. Wright coaches first.

Long: Let go to become personal mentor to Daniel Murphy. Replaced by Jack Voigt. The hacking is disgraceful.

Céspedes: Placed on the DL, and replaced by Brandon Nimmo, who spits time with Lagares in centerfield and bats leadoff. This may mean a couple of days of Taijeron or Desmond Jennings until Brandon is ready, but so be it.

Granderson: To the bench when Duda gets back, Bruce Magoose returns to the outfield.

I don;t care about Sherlock.

1. Whack Barwis. Kick him out of Port St. Lucie completely and take his Fake-Ass Guy Fieri vibe with him.

2. Zimmo here NOW!!!! leads off and plays CF, replaced for D by Lagares as needed but he's the starter, for fucks sake. Conforto in LF, Bruce in right when Doodoo returns

3. CHEECH up, Reynolds (?) down. Play him at third base while Josejose and Grandy transistion to bench guys. Get Jose the odd start replacing all 3 infielders as needed.

4. Sign Fister or some other starting pitcher chump looking for work just for the depth

5. Eliminate the "closer" role until one of Reed or someone else gets their shizz together

6. Shock the Monkeys with the following starting lineup Friday:
Zimmo CF
Cecchini 3B
Conforto LF
Bruce 1B
dArnaud C
Grandyman RF
Walker 2B
Cabrera SS

I said five steps, but I love step six so I'm arbitrarily allowing it.

I was going to hire Bobby to come coach third but I imagine it's hard to do that while AD-ing at a school in Connecticut.

I hope you mean the coaches and staff, CF. But if you mean the players, ok

Not alot you can do with an aging win now team.

A couple tweaks I guess and hope for the best.

Mets can always be sellers if need be.

Problem is that the people to shake things up with are either not ready (Rosario/Smith) or injured (the phone book).

Fire Kevin Long already, please. The only guy he helped left two seasons ago.

And good lord, fire the training staff, Barwis, and hire the guy who trains Bartolo Colon in the Dominican in the offseason.

Put Conforto in the lineup every single game even if Duda and Cespedes come back. I'm tired of Granderson's noodle arm and noodle bat.

Sit Reyes down. I know TJ Rivera's not hitting either, but I'd like to give him a 10-game trial at third base every day, and if he can't hack it, well, Jose's well rested. Cuz this ain't working (despite today's homer).

Have Crash Davis sneak onto the field at Nationals Park and run the sprinklers full blast all night. We need another rainout.

Looking forward to getting two pitchers back in time for the Atlanta series, but it would certainly paint my wagon if it became the springboard for a whole slew of shakeup transactions all at once.

  1. Activate Matz and place him in the rotation.
    • Demote Pill.

[*]Activate Lugo and place him in the rotation.

  • Switch Gsellman to pen. He and the emerging (?) Smoker would, could, or might give you two guys the Mets trust to go multiple innings, something sorely missed.
  • DFA Ramirez.

[*]Promote Nimmo, make him the lefthanded half of the centerfield platoon.

  • Granderson becomes our lefthanded pinch-hitter, also backing up in left, right, and essentially at first, by backing up in right when Jay Bruce backs up at first.
  • Demote Reynolds, who has no role on the team anyways.

[*]Promote Rosario, elevate him to starting shortstop, batting seventh.

  • d'Arnaud becomes the #2 hitter.
  • Cabrera becomes the middle infield backup/double switch specialist.
  • Reyes gets traded, possibly for a reliever, or ...
  • ... Rivera gets traded, possibly for a good reliever, and ...
  • ... Rivera fanbois storm Mets offices.

Cecchini and Smith bone their bats, sharpen their spikes, and stay ready.

Yeah, all of this means nothing if Matz and Lugo can't pitch well enough to hold down those spots they are being given, which, you know, show me, but it would hopefully make some concrete improvements and (less concretely) wake some other guys up.

I like these new fixes. I kinda suspect what's likely is that the thing we'll need to do to get bullpen help is trade Walker (and pay half his salary, ugh). I also kinda like the idea of Matt Harvey as the New Closer. I mean, that's arguably elevated from 4th starter or mopup guy or whetver he is now. Not great for Matt Harvey's career but perhaps its the thing tht triggers us to trade him too, so it's all good.

You could tell him "Matt, it's based on the John Smoltz model. It's just for now until your arm returns to full strength, and hey, Smoltz won 200 games, saved 150, and drinks his beer from a "Hall of Fame"-emblazoned mug, so we're thinking big here."

And the truth will be that it's because of his lousy, deteriorating focus, and you're just trying to stabilize his decline so you can get something back in a trade.

You know, this might actually make some sense.

Matt Harvey is no John Smoltz.

I wish Harvey would have 2 or 3 good starts so we could trade him for something useful in July.

I don't see a shakeup for 2017 before September.

At that point we get a look at Amed. Nimmo and Dominic Smith.

70-92 this year.

The day Darryl Strawberry got promoted, Tucker Ashford—who had been playing well, but had lost most of his prospect luster by that time—came up with him, and both were put into the lineup to replace a slumping Danny Heep and a slumping Hubie Brooks. The game turned into a fantastic extra inning drama, with all hands eventually being called into action. When the dust settled, the Mets were winners, and the two heroes of the night were Danny Heep and Hubie Brooks.

Sometimes nothing leads a vet to kick it up a notch like a rookie being called up to challenge him for playing time.

I have told this story before but I watched every inning of that game worried about taking the SAT exams the following morning. Straw nearly ended the game on a long drive to right that went just foul but iirc went 0-4 or 0-5. My SAT scores sucked.

I have an inkling that the Matz-Lugo return represents the kind of "step-change" promotional orchestration Sandy likes, and wonder if a young shortstop doesn't come along with them. Would be pretty cool, and consistent with the way Sandy does these things, and bring a jolt to a moribund org. It's about the time when decisions are made to move on or move forward anyway: Just think about the deGrom-Montero move.
