Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted April 16, 2017 Posted April 16, 2017 Quick game, no? About an hour and a half and we're already into the 7th.Yup, might even get it in -- GASP!! -- in under 2:30 if things don't go haywire from here.Of course games with and only 5 runs, 8 hits, and 3 walks combined should finish in under 2:30. On the other hand I noticed a couple of (non-NYM) games this week which were 2-1, 8-1/2 deals thattook over 3:00 to complete. I have no idea what the fuck they were doing all that time.oe: Cabrera makes that 6 runs, 9 hits, 3 walks combined
Guest Rockin' Doc Guests Posted April 16, 2017 Posted April 16, 2017 Cabrera parks one into the 2nd deck in RF.I would send DeGrom back out as long as he felt good.
Fman99 Old-Timey Member Posted April 16, 2017 Author Posted April 16, 2017 Listening to Howie and Josh on XM and at least a batter behind the rest of y'all.

Guest Rockin' Doc Guests Posted April 16, 2017 Posted April 16, 2017 A 2-out walk proves costly as Yelich absolutely crushes one to tie it up for the Marlins.
bmfc1 Old-Timey Member Posted April 16, 2017 Posted April 16, 2017 Fuck you Terry. Idiot. Even Keith, who is barely paying attention, knew that Blevins should have been in to face Yelich.
Centerfield Old-Timey Member Posted April 16, 2017 Posted April 16, 2017 Wtf. You can't lose back to back syndegaard degrom starts. Fucking Terry.

I would have run him out there to start the 8th(easy to say in retrospect).
Guest 41Forever Guests Posted April 16, 2017 Posted April 16, 2017 Rats. Let's get the hell out of Florida. Is there a day off before the next series?

bmfc1 Old-Timey Member Posted April 16, 2017 Posted April 16, 2017 (edited) After the 4 pitch walk, sure and even if you're not sure, that's why Blevins exists. Why chance it? It was a no-brainer. Edited April 16, 2017 by Guest

Guest LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Guests Posted April 16, 2017 Posted April 16, 2017 I mean, kick all the puppies you guys want, but Salas has been nothing but reliable to this point, to hitters from both sides of the plate, and especially in relation to being able to work around bad luck/his own mistakes.Walker really wanted the walk there, huh?
Centerfield Old-Timey Member Posted April 16, 2017 Posted April 16, 2017 I know some don't think that the Familia suspension is a big deal but if we lose this game, the suspension looms large. If it's Reed Familia we win this game.

That's a heavy breaking ball Ramos is throwing. This one we shudda won Time for DOCTOR WHO!
Centerfield Old-Timey Member Posted April 16, 2017 Posted April 16, 2017 Fuck this. I'm so fucking pissed about this game. We really got screwed by not having Familia. I feel like I knew we would get burned by this bullshit suspension. Doesn't make it any easier. Fuck Manfred.

He has done a great job this year (excluding tonight), but you can't expect him (or any reliever) to pitch 2 out of every 3 games.
ashie62 Old-Timey Member Posted April 16, 2017 Posted April 16, 2017 Can't lose to divisional lowbies.Does Reyes have a pulse?Pitching staffs are too darn big these days and managers slaves to specialization and coddling. No need to remove deGrom.
Guest John Cougar Lunchbucket Guests Posted April 16, 2017 Posted April 16, 2017 I don't wanna slag Walker after his being the 50% of the offense tonight and making a great play in the field but I wish he wasn't hitting 5th every night. The Salas thing was just asking for it. I guess that means I had two problems with Terry tonight. Terrible loss.
Guest John Cougar Lunchbucket Guests Posted April 16, 2017 Posted April 16, 2017 Oh, and why the hell sit Travis for 2 days straight? Ugh, make that 3 problems with TC tonight. I mean I wish I didn't feel this way.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted April 16, 2017 Posted April 16, 2017 d'Arnaud -- Between the 16 inning game Thursday and the DGANG on Sunday, it's probable that Td'A is only going one of the Fri thru Sun games anyway, so I don't suppose it matters wether he sits Sat and plays Sun or vice-versapitching -- as mentioned, I wanted to see deGrom out there to at least start the 8th - low pitch count, strong 7th. But if that's not in the cards (for whatever reason) why not go straight to Blevins. With DeeGordon leading off* followed by Ellis & Yelich (good L - weaker R - very good L) you give yourself good odds for that inning and have a RH warm for Stanton in case things go sideways. But, like most managers,Terry allows himself to get locked into the "roles" thing and not only is Salas his current '8th inning guy' but Blevins isn't seen as a 'full inning guy' even though there's no reason to think he can't at leastoccasionally be that too.* oe: actually it was Ichiro leading off followed by Gordon and Ellis and then Yelich/Stanton but the point still holds (although probably someone else PH's instead of Ichiro if Blevins starts the inning)
bmfc1 Old-Timey Member Posted April 16, 2017 Posted April 16, 2017 Another argument in favor of deGrom starting the 8th is the day off tomorrow so deGrom has an extra day of rest. The combination of the long game on Thursday, the tired bullpen and the vague restrictions on the young pitcher, caused Terry to manage scared and it cost the Mets the game. And I don't want to hear that Blevins was tired because he was used anyway.
