Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted May 15, 2017 Posted May 15, 2017 Nice to see that Carlos Beltran used the occasion of yesterday's circus to pass the honoree in career numbers of doubles ... in fewer ABs. He also has more career triples, and about 1.5x as many HRsJust sayin'

Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted May 15, 2017 Posted May 15, 2017 btw, that plaque doesn't appear to look a thing like him. That was my first reaction seeing it from a distance yesterday and now that this shot shows it closer I'm doubling down on that assessment.

Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted May 27, 2017 Posted May 27, 2017 Attendance woes at Yanqui StadiumThe LOL here isn't at the Yanx for drawing fewer people as the article talks about various aspects of drawing fans in today's game not unique to the them specifically. No, the real LOL is for those Yanx fans forever talking about how much better they liked the mid-90s team and their home-grown 'core four' as compared to than the FA-heavy team of the early 21st century. But the problem with that claim is that the 2000's teams drew about double what the mid & late '90s teams did. And now that they've got what they were clamoring for, a younger, more home-grown, AND winning squad, they're not showing up as much. The real secret here is that they secretly liked ARod and Clemens even if they were reluctant to say so out loud
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted June 1, 2017 Posted June 1, 2017 Despite so many other things going right for the Yanx this season (Judge, Castro, Gregorius, Severino, Gardner, etc.) last night's 10-4 loss to the Orioles was the third time in the last four outings thatMasahiro Tanaka got his ass kicked: 7 earned on 9 hits over 5.1 IP (very deGromian of him one could say). Even including the one good start he's had over the last four that's 22 runs allowed on 30 hits (incl. 8 HRs) in just 17.2 innings. Take out the one good one and those numbers get real ugly, like ERA of 18.30 ugly.

Methead Old-Timey Member Posted June 1, 2017 Posted June 1, 2017 The Yankees can whine all they want about low attendance, but I'm still not lifting my self-imposed lifetime ban on that stadium. No way.

It also totally ignores the fact that they were cramming 4 million into that place (well, the old version of that place) just a decade ago for a team that a significant portion of the fan base openly professed not to like very much. But now that they've at least partially got the younger/cheaper/homegrown roster they claimed all along to want (while at the same time counting the days until they can sign both Harper & Machado) attendance and revenues have fallen off the table.
Guest 41Forever Guests Posted June 1, 2017 Posted June 1, 2017 The stadium as a reputation as one of the most expensive in the game, right? At some point, a middle class family can only do this once or twice a season instead of once or twice a month. That's gong to affect the bottom line, I think.

That's gong to affect the bottom line, I think. When the Yanx first built the new place they assumed that their run as the hottest ticket in town was going to continue forever just as the Mets assumed that 2006 was merely the start of a lengthy run at the top with ticket demand to match. So the Yanx priced their top seats at something like $2,500 per and just figure that the bandwagon celebrities would keep piling in. But tune into any MFY game and the first thing you notice is that the best seats are the emptiest. It also didn't help when one of their execs told those seat holders not to give away or re-sell their ticket lest it upset those who did show up by having to sit next to any undesirables who don't normally run with such a crowd. But none of the NYC sports teams who got new cribs around that time were prepared for what the recession was going to do to their revenue stream dreams and so all wound up cutting ticket prices off their original plans, or, in the case of the football teams which saw their season ticket waiting list fall from tens of thousands to nil, their PSL fees. Hence the large fall in revenue stream mentioned in that article.
