G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted September 24, 2016 Posted September 24, 2016 The Wild Card-leading Mets (+1 over SFG, +1 1/2 over STL) attempt to inch a wee bit closer to a playoff berth by sending three pitchers to the mound tonight, Sean, Gil and Martin...what's their last names?Correction: It's Sean Gilmartin, their No. 18 starter, though at this point, the depth chart is good for cleaning Dan Warthen's glasses. And it's likely we'll see somewhere between three and eighteen pitchers anyway.Sean a little love on tonight's emergency arm. May it be electric, light up the radar gun and orchestrate a win over Alec Asher.[youtube:2eaeelg2]GJuTIxwQw0k[/youtube:2eaeelg2]
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted September 24, 2016 Posted September 24, 2016 Alec Asher (not to be confused with Cody Asche) will be the Phils alleged starter. (Asher/Asche -- Rupp/Ruf ... what's with these guys? They get group discounts or something?)The soon-to-be 25 y/o Righty, who came over from Texas as part of the mass of bodies in the Cole Hamels deal, will be making his 3rd ML start of the season to go with the 7 he started in 2015. He shut-out the Nats two weeks ago on 2 hits over 6 IP in his 2016 debut. Since then he's held Pitt & Miami to 2 runs each over 6 and 4 innings. His only start vs NYM came just about a year ago (Game #158) and he might still be seeing a therapist over that one. He left after facing seven batters but retiring just two while allowing a leadoff double followed by two walks, two wild pitches, two HRs (Muffy - 3R, Conforto - 2R) and on the short end of a 5-0 score although it turned out to be the Mets and not him who wound up losing the game as Logan Verrett and Bobby Parnell (in his final NYM appearance) conspired to give back the entire early lead and more in that post-clinching game.Ya gotta figure that Robles, Ynoa, and maybe Smoker are unavailable for today's version of the March of the Wooden Pitchers, although Salas, Reed, and Familia should be tanned, rested, and ready.

Guest cooby Guests Posted September 24, 2016 Posted September 24, 2016 You might as well. The way it's going we might all get a chance to pitch
Guest d'Kong76 Guests Posted September 24, 2016 Posted September 24, 2016 Well, it's past noon... anybody hear if anyone else is sick, hobbled, hurt, ailing...?

MFS62 Old-Timey Member Posted September 24, 2016 Posted September 24, 2016 Is that the posted lineup?I guess Cabrera's leg is OK.On the post game presser last night, Terry said he might hold him out and play Reyes at short.Later

Edgy MD Site Manager Posted September 24, 2016 Posted September 24, 2016 Whoah .... TransMonk is bringing the data. That last line, though ... ouch.

Zvon Old-Timey Member Posted September 24, 2016 Posted September 24, 2016 Ugh.Squeezed right outta the gate.I just read that Flores might be out for the season. Wtf? True?Nice play Duda.
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted September 24, 2016 Posted September 24, 2016 The Mets can, of course, get back into this game, but they have to stop the bleeding. And soon!
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted September 24, 2016 Posted September 24, 2016 Okay, so the bleeding continues. Now it's 5-0.Would an ailing Noah Syndergaard have had a worse inning? Gilmartin exits after 2/3 of an inning.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted September 24, 2016 Posted September 24, 2016 Just so I have this straight, this is NOT the way we wanted to start, right?
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted September 24, 2016 Posted September 24, 2016 Not terribly surprising, though. This makeshift starting rotation was going to bite them eventually. If this game turns out to be a loss, it won't necessarily kill their season. But it's certainly discouraging.
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted September 24, 2016 Posted September 24, 2016 I'll feel a lot better if the Mets can get two or three back this inning. And Reyes makes the first out.
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted September 24, 2016 Posted September 24, 2016 Okay, so the Mets made three outs on nine pitches.I'm tuning out! Maybe I'll check in again later.
Zvon Old-Timey Member Posted September 25, 2016 Posted September 25, 2016 I like to state the oblivious. Yep, GO PADRES!!!
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted September 25, 2016 Posted September 25, 2016 Not sure what Asher's tattoo is of but it looks like a bar code of some kind.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted September 25, 2016 Posted September 25, 2016 Not sure if they've got what it takes to fight back from this - but I'm thinking that a hit would be a nice start.
Guest cooby Guests Posted September 25, 2016 Posted September 25, 2016 From the PSU flummoxing to this. Crap. Glad I had a nice afternoon, at least
Guest d'Kong76 Guests Posted September 25, 2016 Posted September 25, 2016 Mets down by a touchdown and field goal.
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted September 25, 2016 Posted September 25, 2016 I just checked in again. Yuck! Time to pull some of the starters. Get Cespedes and Cabrera out of the game!
