Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted April 5, 2016 Author Posted April 5, 2016 You're welcome! I was figuring that this would reduce participation but if it does the opposite all the better!
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted April 5, 2016 Posted April 5, 2016 Will voting remain open, and therefore the player of the game for a particular game possibly change over time as critical consensus evolves?
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted April 5, 2016 Author Posted April 5, 2016 Games will remain open for voting longer than they did in past years, when it was two business days. Now, I'm figuring about two weeks, though we'll have to see how things develop. My current plan is to close out games from the first half of April on or around May 1, and the second half of April on or around May 15, etc.I'm not sure if this is where you were going with your question, but I should point out that there's no mechanism for going back and editing your votes, and I have no plans at all to add that feature.
Guest cooby classic Guests Posted April 5, 2016 Posted April 5, 2016 I was thinking, couldn't you add another true to the Baseball Fora for POTG? Then it would still be here and handy
Guest cooby classic Guests Posted April 5, 2016 Posted April 5, 2016 Stupid auto correct (sigh)Add another tier

Just plug in my votes and submit. Seems way easier to me.As long as the link gets posted to the IGT after each game I hope to vote on as many games as possible this year.
metsmarathon Old-Timey Member Posted April 5, 2016 Posted April 5, 2016 the biggest problem for me was always that once i fell behind, i felt like i could never catch up. leaving hte games open for 2 weeks will help me a lot.now i just need to figure out a better way to conduct my personal tabulations. time to up my excel game.

Guest themetfairy Guests Posted April 6, 2016 Posted April 6, 2016 I have another request. For relief pitchers, would it be possible to include inherited runners stranded/inherited runners allowed as a stat?

Thank you. You have no idea how much paper you've saved me over the course of the season. I think you just saved an entire forest.themetfairy wrote:I have another request. For relief pitchers, would it be possible to include inherited runners stranded/inherited runners allowed as a stat?TMF has a point- there are some grey areas in a game where a full box score might shed a light on something that might not be reflected in your game breakdowns. For me, I don't think that's needed for games I watch. Games I don't watch I will still consult a full box from CBS or ESPN on my own. I don't know if a link to a full box is necessary but there are times I will need to go over one. No real biggy, as I said I can zip over to CBSsportsline myself. I agree with TMF that the more info included in your game breakdowns, the better.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted April 7, 2016 Posted April 7, 2016 (edited) Geez folks, there about 87 different ways to call up a box score on the interwebs, ones that come complete with pictures, descriptions, and accounts of the game. Edited April 7, 2016 by Guest
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted April 7, 2016 Author Posted April 7, 2016 Yes. Those abbreviated stats on the voting form are just there as a handy reminder. They're not intended to replace an actual box score. I'm afraid that what you're currently seeing is as good as it will get.

Guest Mets Willets Point Guests Posted April 8, 2016 Posted April 8, 2016 Oh, this is fun. So much easier. I think I'll be participating more often.

Truthfully, years ago when I first started voting I had problems, mostly keeping it under 10. And I'd agonize over giving everyone who deserved it just the right amount of beer. But after doing it for years, now it's like bing-bang-boom-DUN. Still, that "check the math" thing will come in handy.
Guest d'Kong76 Guests Posted April 9, 2016 Posted April 9, 2016 Just busting bajangas. In a 'busy' win I find I usually end up giving toomuch to someone and by the time I'm done I'm reluctantly shaving it.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted April 10, 2016 Posted April 10, 2016 So Grimm, are visitors to UMDB being offered (encouraged?) the opportunity to vote on these games or is PotG remaining essentially a secret project for us CPF elitists?
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted April 10, 2016 Author Posted April 10, 2016 So far I guess it's still "secret". I may some day do something to promote it but have not yet done so. Zvon said something about posting a link on his blog. I have no objections to anything like that. I do see some unfamiliar aliases among the voters but my assumption is that it's one of us being playful.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted April 10, 2016 Posted April 10, 2016 It just seems that, since you accept reader comments on games, that accepting votes on PotG would be would be a natural. Plus it might increase Schafer participation and maybe even advertise the Pool a bit more.
A Boy Named Seo Old-Timey Member Posted April 11, 2016 Posted April 11, 2016 i'm late to the party, but this is great stuff, BG. Much easier mechanism to do the thing.
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted April 14, 2016 Author Posted April 14, 2016 So far this season 23 of the 25 Mets who have played have received Schaefer points. The only two exceptions are Steven Matz and Eric Campbell.
Guest themetfairy Guests Posted April 14, 2016 Posted April 14, 2016 Hi - me again to annoy you further....I actually just bookmarked the voting page. But would you consider adding the link to the menu up above, so it would be easy to find even without looking for it in the threads?
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted April 14, 2016 Author Posted April 14, 2016 Not a bad idea, but it's not something I'm going to get to any time soon. It sounds like it should be an easy thing to do, but it would probably take me a while to find the spot where I'd have to make the change.
Guest themetfairy Guests Posted April 16, 2016 Posted April 16, 2016 I'm loving the Check My Math feature!
