Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted September 21, 2015 Posted September 21, 2015 So now all we need four different pitchers to all have good nights in the same game.
Zvon Old-Timey Member Posted September 21, 2015 Posted September 21, 2015 Reed on. Totally baffeled here. Trying to give the pen some confidence cause it's the Braves?
Fman99 Old-Timey Member Posted September 21, 2015 Author Posted September 21, 2015 Nice grab on the comebacker. Reed throws all of 7 pitches to get through the inning. Can we get him to pitch the 8th also?
Lefty Specialist Old-Timey Member Posted September 21, 2015 Posted September 21, 2015 Addison Reed mercifully cuts Steve Gelbs short.
Zvon Old-Timey Member Posted September 21, 2015 Posted September 21, 2015 Then Reed leads off the inning at the plate.

Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted September 21, 2015 Posted September 21, 2015 I wish Reed would stay in but I doubt it. He is due to lead off.

Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted September 21, 2015 Posted September 21, 2015 Come on guys! Three or four runs here!

Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted September 21, 2015 Posted September 21, 2015 I think that was the first ground ball we've ever hit past Andreton Simmons.
Lefty Specialist Old-Timey Member Posted September 21, 2015 Posted September 21, 2015 Murph taketh away, and Murph giveth.

Zvon Old-Timey Member Posted September 21, 2015 Posted September 21, 2015 I really felt we needed a win here to erase yesterday. Good game.
seawolf17 Old-Timey Member Posted September 21, 2015 Posted September 21, 2015 Back on the train, friends. Good W.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted September 21, 2015 Posted September 21, 2015 You gotta take the Muff with the Murph. It's winning baseball, but not for the faint of heart.
Fman99 Old-Timey Member Posted September 21, 2015 Author Posted September 21, 2015 BOOKS. And let there be a new IGT winning streak!
MFS62 Old-Timey Member Posted September 21, 2015 Posted September 21, 2015 Wow!What a pleasant surprise.Good job, Jonathan. Good job everyone.Later
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted September 22, 2015 Posted September 22, 2015 Nice to find the road out of Panic City.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted September 22, 2015 Posted September 22, 2015 So did any one of the scribes or mics come up with an explanation of WTF was going through Murphy's head last night, besides the usual cool breeze of course?Or, for that matter, what was the rush to get Niese out of there?

(Or maybe he assumed the DP?)I think I saw some 'get him out on a high note, get the good relievers in' notes on Niese. That might just be the public comments though.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted September 22, 2015 Posted September 22, 2015 The problem with the "assumed the DP" theory is that he saw the failed exchange and celebrated it.At the point of celebration, he seems to then have either forgotten he was on the base paths, or failed to realize that he wasn't the player who was put out.I saw Granderson double back after the failed transfer to be certain he touched home plate. So clearly he was concerned he also assumed too much and had forgot to take care of business as well. It would have been a real disaster if he actually hadn't initially touched the plate and Murphy got tagged before he doubled back.
Guest John Cougar Lunchbucket Guests Posted September 22, 2015 Posted September 22, 2015 I assumed Muffy was applauding that a run scored. My read is that he wrongly assumed he'd been forced out and momentarily stopped being a baseball player and sort of became a spectator.
Guest Mets Willets Point Guests Posted September 22, 2015 Posted September 22, 2015 Can you blame him? Don't we all love watching baseball?

Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted September 22, 2015 Posted September 22, 2015 I'm not surprised that he thought that, but a little surprised that he actually said it.I think, even with that thought, I would have let Niese pitch until he gave up a baserunner. If the lead was greater than two runs, I might have allowed him two baserunners. I'd want to let him keep eating up outs for as long as he could.
Zach Thornton Syracuse Mets - AAA LHP On Sunday, the southpaw tossed five shutout innings as the bulk pitcher. He gave up 2 hits, walked 2 and had 5 strikeouts. Explore Zach Thornton News >
