Per Mets Facebook:

New for 2015! The Mets will be switching to a white with royal pinstripes primary home uniform next season, adding a new alternate road cap and - for Spring Training and pregame activities - the popular Mr. Met Batting Practice Cap returns with a new look.

These jerseys and hats will be exclusively available on 11/21 at http://www.mets.com/shop and at the Mets Team Store at Citi Field.

Sorry if this was posted elsewhere...feel free to merge with one of the other uni threads if necessary.

So they are whacking "snow white" and introducing a cap to match the alternate road jersey but what's new about the pinnies? No more cream?

Posted

Solid orange on a kit is almost always a bad idea. In fact, turning your secondary color into your primary is almost always a bad idea.

Posted

Yeah, it looks like the cream is gone on the pinstripes. I often wonder what drives these things? It seems like such an unnecessary change.

The Mets are the worst ever but I really like the reintroduction of the grey numerals on the blue away unis.

I find the gray on blue gets lost in there. Like it's a primer coat that somebody didn't have time to put the the finish on.

In-person, the gray pops more.

So, does this mean that my dropshadow-white Beltran and dropshadow-gray Johan have crossed the line from "old" to "vintage" yet?

I hope this isn't our biggest off season move. Like T-monk said, unnecessary. Our unis were doing fine. It's some of the guys wearing em that should be redesigned.

The white with pinstripes always was the Mets' best uniform, so that's a welcome return.

I can't believe I'm saying this but I would LOVE the black uniform over the eyesore that is the camouflage nonsense.

I will miss the snow whites. They were by far my favorite uniform. My favorite, now by default, is the road gray.

I like the blue alternative jerseys, both home and away. I'm glad they have them to change things up. I have never liked the home pinstripe. I'd be ok if I never saw pinstripes on the Mets again. I don't like any of the hats. I'll be looking at alternate hats to buy this year.

Maybe I missed this, but why do we have camouflage unis anyway? It makes sense in some cities where there is a military presence, but it makes no sense here in NY. It's crazy and dumb. If the Mets players wanted to camouflage themselves, they should dress like empty seats.

Well (1) vets' issues is one of Fred's pet causes, and (2) what gets the team in good with the league is good for the team, from management's perspective.

And I guess (3) it's particularly unoriginal.

Pinstripes is THE Met kit. It's original, foundational. It links every Met ever, and it says good things to your heart.

would hte digital camo work better if it used the team colors as the background color? like if it were a blue camo, with orange lettering? it would still be camo, and therefore representative of the military, but without playing soldier. also, it would look a hell of a lot less awful to the eyes with the mismatched colors. i'm basically pictuing the alternate home jersey, but with a pixellated blue.

the other way to go would be to go all-camo, with appropriately muted gray/green logos and lettering on the uni. you could even have velcro patches and the like.

anything would be better than blue and orange on a sand camo.

Then, when changing a pitcher who was getting bombed or removing a guy who just made a costly error in the field, instead of just sending a replacement out, the manager could march out there and rip the team logo insignias right off the jersey and send the player off the field in disgrace. Or maybe make the player wait out there for his substitute at which point he'd have to rip his own patches off and place them on the shoulder of his replacement in a changing of the guards type of situation.
Needless to say, trades and demotions would now have their own video-worthy moments as patches, numbers, logos, etc. are removed from the fallen soldier.

I think you may be onto something here.

I'm good with any uniform as long as it's utilizing the blue and orange in some fashion. (and white and black in various degrees obviously) The camo is the worst ever.

I know. And as far as I know, I'm the only Met fan that doesn't like the uniform. Can't explain it. I really don't like pinstripes.

If we are talking worst jerseys ever, the 80's road jersey with the script New York has to be in the discussion.

Why tinker with the best road jersey in the world? It boggles the mind.

As for the camo jersey, I think mm's idea about going all camo would be the only way to salvage it. If you are going sand camo, the logo and numbers should be similarly muted so it matches.

I think FK is onto something. If we want to honor the military, let's go all out, and for once, be the pioneer on this front. Let's airdrop our players onto the field at the start of each game. When we replace a player, let's have them mime being shot then the bench players can bring a stretcher out on the field. We should break up mound meetings by throwing a toy hand grenade, then everyone fall away like they've been blown up. I think this would be awesome.

Or we could just wear a patch of the US flag on our uniform.

Former Brooklyn Dodger Chuck Connors shows you how it's done.

That's awesome. That needs to be gif-orized.

The best part is that, as the camera zooms in on his stoic face, his commander seems to have ripped all insignia off of him, but his shoulders are still recoiling against one insult after another, and you're wondering what else could be left, and you get the idea that he's being stripped down to his underwear like Johnny Monell.

Okay, the other one's better. But, c'mon, bud... aesthetically, this ain't no turdpile.

The pictured Gooden jersey is not authentic: Those are aftermarket numerals for one. Would have to travel to the 70s to get anything close to that thickness and even then, the 80s-early 90s featured slim NOBs and numbers.

This is an assault on my good senses. You put this under the turdpile, so you don't get any shit on the rug.

I really dug the cream. The Giants have been rocking it, and I thought the Mets looked classy as hell in em, but picking one is like being being given Biel and Alba and told to choose only one Jessica. I'll survive either way.

I am always completely indifferent to the BP uni's, but I would like to launch a full-scale Obama drone attack on those horrendous camouflage things.

The worst, in my view. 1988-1992 road, big block NEW YORK that lacked character and resembled MFY road NEW YORK. Combined with moving from St. Pete to St. Lucie, I could feel a certain essential Metness slipping away in the spring of '88.

Posted

Conversely, a little overlooked in the historical scheme of uniform things, I think: 1993 road. Revived the Mazz-era trimming, reined in the excesses of the nice try/no dice script New York from 1987 and somehow got away with no numbers on the front, which always freaked me out when I saw pictures of how the Mets dressed from 1962-1964. Of course it suffered from being worn by the 1993 Mets.

They were revised a year later and ditched for the almost/not quite retro look in '95.

Seconded. I've never met anyone who likes the camouflage Mets jerseys. And the jerseys and hats together are just frickin' hideous.

Late 80's script gets an honorable mention, but they finish second to the camo. Can't we find a better way to honor the troops than this?
