Voting for the 2014 Schaefer Mets Player of the Year Award will begin on Monday, March 31, the Crane Pool Forum has announced. This will be the tenth season that Crane Pool Forum members will be participating in Schaefer voting. The Schaefer Mets Player of the Year Award was established in the 1970's, and Schaefer points were awarded by Mets broadcasters Lindsey Nelson, Ralph Kiner, and Bob Murphy.

The award was re-established by the Crane Pool Forum in 2005. Third baseman David Wright has been the winner in in six of the nine years of the revived prize. The other winners were Johan Santana in 2008, Jose Reyes in 2011, and Daniel Murphy in 2013.

A voting thread is opened in the forum at the conclusion of each regular season Mets game, according to CPF spokesmodel Benjamin Grimm. Voting generally stays open for two business days, after which the votes are tallied and the results are posted in the voting thread. In addition, says Grimm, each month a Schaefer Mets Player, Pitcher, Relief Pitcher, and Bench Player of the Month will be named.

Voters are asked to adhere to a specific format, which is outlined at http://archives.cranepoolforum.net/6200/f9_t6278.shtml

Also, please remember that we have two players named Young this year, so votes for Chris should be CYoung and vote for Eric should be EYoung. Thank you, and Happy Schaefering!

I own lotsa Rheingold themed Mets related memorabilia. And some Budweiser stuff, too. But no Schaefer.

It's been hard to pay close attention in August these last few years. Maybe, with luck, this will be a different kind of August.

Is this where I make my annual plea to leave the voting threads open longer? Love the process but sometimes it's not possible to get all the votes in.

In the past I've seen that the majority of votes come quickly, but as an experiment I'll start the season keeping the threads open for three business days instead of two. So Monday's opener will close on Friday instead of Thursday.

As we're starting to get rolling on Schaefer 2014, I thought I'd post a last look back at Schaefer 2013.

Also, I'll post the formal announcement tomorrow, but the tallying for Opening Day will occur Friday morning.

in the 3 april game against the cincinatti reds, m.e.t.b.o.t. calculated a total of +0.178 WPA for metropolitan right fielder curtis granderson. based on the total allotment of +WPA in the game, this would have resulted in a total of 7.12 schaefer votes. an adjustment of -0.028 WPA was applied to metropolitan right fielder curtis granderson, resulting in a limit-friendly 6.00 vote. no adjustments were made to other players as the total unadjusted +WPA for the game was +0.229.

Everybody please remember, when voting for Eric Young it's "EYoung", not "Young".

Assuming we ever actually see Chris Young come to bat this year.

Voting for all three games played in Anaheim last weekend will close on Thursday morning, some time after 10 a.m.

Schaefer POTG, 4/11/2014: Angels 5 Mets 4 (11)
Schaefer POTG 4/12/14 - Mets 7, Angels 6 (13 Innings)
Schaefer POTG 4/13/14 - Angels 14, Mets 2

Please remember, when voting for Eric Young, to refer to him as EYoung. This is going to become even more important if Chris Young returns this weekend as anticipated. Thank you!
