i just pulled the list of the metly hitters with the top 50 WARs for their metly career, according to baseball reference.

i then ranked those top 50 according to WAR per 600 plate appearances, as reported again by baseball reference.

david wright is #6 on the list.

one at a time, lets see if you can name the other 9 in the top ten.

time to catch up:

hojo, no.
gilkey... yes!
beltran... good god, of course!
reyes? rey-no!
delgado? oh, oh no.
cameron? come on now. he actually didin't have enough career WAR to make hte list, at 4.2, but would've been around #23rd
kent... kryptonite.
and finally, mike pizza. of course not. did you really forget how bad his last two met seasons were? in his last two seasons, he had almost 900 plate appearances, and put up only 0.2 WAR total. toss those aside though, and he's ahead of strawberry.

1.
2. beltran 5.12 WAR/600 PA
3. john olerud 5.11 WAR/600 PA
4.
5. darryl strawberry 4.81 WAR/600 PA
6. david wright 4.70 WAR/600 PA
7.
8.
9.
10. bernard gilkey 3.91 WAR/600 PA

not in top 10:
mike piazza #12 3.70 WAR/600 PA
jose reyes #15 3.43 WAR/600 PA
howard johnson #22 2.86 WAR/600 PA
jeff kent #30 2.53 WAR/600 PA
carlos delgado #47 1.42 WAR/600 PA

so, um, yeah... where was i...

cleon jones. had three really good years. and a bunch of not good years. nope.
lance johnson - i was surprised to see his name on the list. not as much as one or two other players. but he did well in his one and a half metly seasons.
dave magadan - figured he'd get named sooner. not on the list, but close.
robin ventura - close, but no cigar.
keith hernandez - now you're talking!
lenny dykstra - nailed it!
kevin mcreynolds - no, but not terrible
edgardo alfonzo (i think) - thumbs up!
moises alou - like cameron but better, rate-wise. his 2.3 career metly WAR don't get him near the top 50. still, not top-10 caliber.
rey ordonez - [snicker]

so where do we stand?

1. lenny freaking dykstra 5.18 WAR/600 PA
2. beltran 5.12 WAR/600 PA
3. john olerud 5.11 WAR/600 PA
4. lance freaking johnson 5.10 WAR/600 PA
5. darryl strawberry 4.81 WAR/600 PA
6. david wright 4.70 WAR/600 PA
7. keith freaking hernandez 4.32 WAR/600 PA
8. edgardo freakig alfonzo 3.98 WAR/600 PA
9.
10. bernard gilkey 3.91 WAR/600 PA

ok, i'm going to mix things up a bit, because while i think #9 is going to take a while to guess, i'm curious to see just how long you guys take to guess out the top 15 WARingest metly hitters.

11.
12. mike piazza 3.70 WAR/600 PA
13. robin ventura 3.69 WAR/600 PA
14.
15. jose reyes 3.43 WAR/600 PA

not in the top [crossout:3kd6bs18]10[/crossout:3kd6bs18]15

dave magadan #16 3.38 WAR/600 PA
kevin mcreynolds #20 2.93 WAR/600 PA
