He and Hamilton were in the same class of uber-outfielders that you had better get the autographs of NOW!!!

Back then.

Contemporaries of Alex Escobar, for that matter.

I guess it's good to have them in the mix. Can't hurt, anyway. Maybe one of them will become an offensive version of R.A. Dickey.

I doubt that this impacts whether or not they pursue Michael Bourn.

I have the sick feeling that Corey Patterson will actually spend time playing in the Met outfield this season and will engender the same feeling that we had when Jose Offerman or Gerald Williams were clogging up lineup space.

2005, a Mets team on the up....2013?

Despite what I wrote implied the other thread, Mike and Corey did not get camp invites with their contracts, and will head straight to minor league camp to work out with the Travis Taijerons and the ZeErika McQueens.

Yeah, BA had those two as prospects 1 & 1A in one of their annual lists.
I believe they ultimately put Hamilton ahead of Patterson so as to not have a dead-tie, but they thought it was essentially even (even though the two did have different strengths and were hardly the same player).

Then, for the longest time, it seemed like neither one of them was going to make it in MLB.

No, Rogers, that was a 12-year-old joke snuck in there to see if anyone was paying attention.

Ichiro counted as a prospect?

Ichiro was unique to BA's prospect list and they weren't quite sure how to treat him but ultimately chose to do so as a prospect on account of him having never before played in MLB.
To be consistent they've done the same with subsequent Japanese players who have come over since (Matusi x 2 for example) although not all raters do the same.

I see those failed prospects and am less concerned about losing a pick in signing Bourn.

Felix Pie is the new Corey Patterson moving from prospect, to suspect, to permanently mediocre.
