Maybe I'm just being snarky but engagement pictures should be taken by some guy down on Church Street that also has another job, not by someone who charges a few thousand dollars a shot.

Everyone I talked to threw in the engagement shoot as a freebie or like $100-200 when you bought the wedding package. Good way to get comfortable and familiar with the photographer. I'm not going to sully this thread by putting a picture of me in it though.

That makes sense. It gives the photographer a sense of what the couple is like, how the family relations work, etc., and should make the big day that much easier for everyone.
