Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted September 26, 2012 Posted September 26, 2012 I was looking through some old Mets yearbooks that I have, and I found this oddity. How is it that nobody's ever noticed it before?
Guest The Second Spitter Guests Posted September 26, 2012 Posted September 26, 2012 I think it would be awesome if David sits out the rest of the game after he gets the hit.(Apologies if this joke has been done before, haven't kept up with this thread).
Guest Mets Willets Point Guests Posted September 26, 2012 Posted September 26, 2012 Don't open the sugarpants.com link at work. One of these days someone is going to have to explain to me the sugarpants nickname.

Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted September 26, 2012 Posted September 26, 2012 You're right; this is my first card that's not from the 1970s. I think the card that this was based on was from 1966, but I'm not certain of that.
batmagadanleadoff Old-Timey Member Posted September 26, 2012 Posted September 26, 2012 That design is based on Topps 1967 teammates cards.
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted September 26, 2012 Posted September 26, 2012 Strange how they sometimes include the players' first names and sometimes don't.It doesn't seem to be for space considerations: NORM CASH and AL KALINE don't have a whole lot of letters between them.

Guest Swan Swan H Guests Posted September 26, 2012 Posted September 26, 2012 They needed to help identify Mays and McCovey for the casual fan. I mean, EVERYBODY knew who Kranepool and Swoboda were, right?

Edgy MD Site Manager Posted September 27, 2012 Posted September 27, 2012 Sheesh. It's not like something's on the table waiting for a signature.I believe Wright shut down negotiations for the season anyhow.

Let's wait a little longer so Sandy can see in person what type of player he is. Let's wait until he starts out hot next year so we can make a half-hearted attempt to engage in talks during the middle of the season. Let's let the fans suffer and watch as them as they engage in fruitless "Re-Sign David" campaigns. Let's not move him at the deadline for players who can help us in the future so as to not effect second-half ticket sales. And then when he hits the open market and has a bazillion suitors for his services, let's talk conceptually about an offer that falls just under what others are offering so we can watch him walk away.
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted September 27, 2012 Posted September 27, 2012 That sounds like a plan!

Centerfield Old-Timey Member Posted September 27, 2012 Posted September 27, 2012 Really, I'm glad you guys have known me for years and some of you think I'm sane. If I were to join the forum now my handle would be "FUCK THE WILPONS". I'd write negative post after negative post pinning all the blame the owners and you guys would just write me off as a some troll.Oh, and I left out a step. Let's leak to the press that Wright eats his pizza with a fork or some other damaging information so we can justify not re-signing him.
