It's my understanding that the Mets control Paulino until next year. Like Buchholz, he became a free agent last year not because he had yet accrued service time, but because he had been non-tendered.

No, there'll be someone else, but until they re-sign Reyes or bring in that somebody else, he looks number two on the shortstop depth chart for guys currently in the organization. He's already on the 40, too.

Sure, but it's only mentioned, and until it's announced, he's sort of next in line.

I don't know if he or Morgan are under consideration for the last two spots on the big-league roster, but if they're serious about improving the defense at all, I hope they get an infielder and an outfielder. I realize it's sort of a double standard when I accept that a guy like Hudgens can teach hitting despite not being much of a hitter himself, but I hope Teufel isn't put in charge of infield coaching, because he was never much at all with the glove.

Well, Geren puts a catcher on the staff, but I'd still like to see somebody who has reputation with coaching infielders and/or outfielders and I'm not thinking Teufel is that guy.

Holy Snoops! I was on the right track the first time with Kevin Morgan. Morgan, the team's minor league infield coordinator (who got one at-bat with the team in 1997), and minor league outfield coordinator Jack Voight were there first two reported interviews for the first base coaching job.

My thinking is that we need both of their likes on the job.

The Mets website says it's Manny Acosta that's being removed from the roster (and exposed to waivers) but I'm pretty sure the reporter has his Mannys ("Menny"?) mixed up and Newsday's Alvarez report is correct.

I figure that was all required.

The list of guys they need to add to the 40-man has to begin with Lagares, right? He may be a fringey prospect merely faking it in centerfield, but he's destroying AFL pitching right now --- and this would be the third straight league that has become his plaything.
