seawolf17 Old-Timey Member Posted April 2, 2011 Posted April 2, 2011 I totally love how well Gary straddles the line between fan and impartial announcer. Little slips like calling Willie Harris "Lenny" a few innings ago, celebrating the second K in the bottom the ninth, etc. He's brilliant.
seawolf17 Old-Timey Member Posted April 2, 2011 Posted April 2, 2011 Part of me wants Boyer to strike out the side here in dramatic fashion, but I'd really not rather have that kind of closer drama.Boyer's beard is closer-worthy, though.
Fman99 Old-Timey Member Posted April 2, 2011 Posted April 2, 2011 Malachai in to put this fucker to bed.

metirish Old-Timey Member Posted April 2, 2011 Posted April 2, 2011 it's the Mets so nothing, absolutely nothing is easy.
TransMonk Old-Timey Member Posted April 2, 2011 Posted April 2, 2011 Fun game. Not perfect, but the good guys won.

Guest LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Guests Posted April 2, 2011 Posted April 2, 2011 This thread is a blur of mid-eighties cinema, innit?Had the game on mute late: does anyone have any clue why the right fielder-- Cousins?-- let the potential Wright foul out drop in the tenth? (The potential tag-up of Reyes/Pagan? If that's it... that kid deserves some Landshark, or Sol, or whatever.)

(The potential tag-up of Reyes/Pagan? If that's it... that kid deserves some Landshark, or Sol, or whatever.)If he catches that then Reyes takes 3rd easily with one out (and maybe Pagan takes 2nd and kills the potential GiDP). I've seen that before with a runner on 3rd that could win/tie the game but I don't think I've seen it only 1st & 2nd.If I'm on 'D' there I want the out - particularly with the other team's best hitter up there. But at least that one is a split decision call by a player. But how about Collins bunting Pagan to get Reyes over?!?!? Really Terry? And he kept in on after 2-0 count and still on 2-1. That it worked thanks to a wide throw doesn't make it a good play IMO. That Reyes can get there on his own and base stealers were 10-fer-10 against that pitcher last season makes it even worse.Really Terry?!?!?
Guest LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Guests Posted April 2, 2011 Posted April 2, 2011 Even leaving aside that it's DAVID FUCKING WRIGHT at the plate to whom you're giving another strike, you take the out. Outs, even in a tie game in extras, are the most precious quantity.Though I kinda liked his leaving Boyer in to finish (only sticking point there: why get Byrdak up, then?), Terry's in-game management these last two games hasn't exactly been highlight-reel-worthy.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted April 2, 2011 Posted April 2, 2011 Yeah, that's a more modest point but why bother to get Byrdak up if you're just going to let Boyer pitch to two LHBs?Plus it's not like BB was mowing them down without a hitch.
