I figured this year we could switch it up and gather at Darryl Strawberry's joint, you never know, the Man might be there.

We usually do this thing shortly after Spring Training begins, but if anyone wants to shout out dates that work (or don't) we may as well start now, so we can be sure to get a good crowd.

I was going to suggest March 20 in Manhattan, because I'm running the NYC Half Marathon again so I'll already be in town....

It should definitely be at Straw's. Good call. Accessible by train, too! I'm assuming it's too early to know the TV schedule for ST games?

All home games are on SNY. all the schedules are final now I think. the only think to think about would be a (whichever college basketball uses SNY) game which might preempt Mets baseball. which is just stupid, but it happens.

Straw's in March is fine with me ... anyone up for a January
Virgil's meeting too? The Sat or Sun in that stupid weekend
between the conference playoff finals and super bowl?

Thanks Steve.

D-Dad is busy on the 30th, but we are open so far on the 29th.

I'm good for the 29th at Virgils.

The 20th at Straws in March is probably a good spring training
tv game day, and I got nothing going on, but it's not in St. Lucie.
The 6th and 13th are home games. Let's try and pick dates for
both meetings relatively quickly so we can calendar them!

Can one get to Straw's but subway and then LIRR from Manhattan
without going to Penn Station? I have never been on an LIRR train
in my life.

March 6th may be a conflict for us. March 13th definitely doesn't work for us.

Oh, and I don't really care if there's a spring training game on
if more people can do the 20th.

Why yes, you can take the trusty 7 train to woodside and transfer! Actually, you could probably transfer at Citi Field were it a game day and the trains stopped. Or Flushing Main.

(Or at the new east side LIRR access at GCP, just transfer there from the second avenue subway right? :-)(\)

Not sure what I can and cannot do personally, I do know the 20th is bad, due to flying back from Port St. Lucie that day.

Never had a reason to take the train to Long Island, ya know,
with the traffic being so fluid and uncongested!

(why does Firefox spell check not like uncongested?)

March 20 will most assuredly be a NCAA men's basketball weekend. Either first- or second-round game, which will definitely take precedence on any Sports Bar television.

Presuming workable weather/babyhealth/that I won't be attempting to finagle tickets to Dallas/the game because the Jets have made it to the SuperBowl, Virgil's on the 29th seems workable.

Mixed bag, no?

On weekends, however, like a man after a chili cookoff, I'm strapped to the 'Pooper.

Families are always welcome, there are often kids at these things.
With advance notice, door prize giveaways might even be rigged
on occasion if they display Mets' fandomness! **

The 29th seems to be good for Virgil's. Please discuss a date for
the March thing and let's put a wrapper on it by 1/7!

(I'm getting bossy in my old age hee hee)

The presentation of the CPF Rheingold Achievement Award will
be given out at the March meeting. The title might be changed
this year, but that's for me to know and you to find out nahnah
nahnah nah nah.

** Not all door prizes are desirable. Juan Samuel will sneak into
action on occasion and Vince Coleman. And one year Jeets got
a sheet of nine Walt Terrell Tigers' cards!

What time on the 29th....during the day-ish?, I would like to go and bring Lorcan...especially if some other kids are going to be there.

Noon, I guess ... lunch! We may have to hang out downstairs
for a short time but that's pretty family friendly and ok so long as
no kids belly up to the bar.
