Cantu was the Marlins third baseman this year before he got traded to Texas. Lance Berkman is the guy missing from the rankings but I don't think that changes where Ike falls.

For a while a few games back, Ike's numbers were very similar to Murphy's until Ike got hot again.
Now Ike has moved ahead.
But not by very much.

pedro didn't have a bad year. he was ridiculously effective against lefties, holding them to an 0.574 OPS, and stranded all but 9 of his 50 inherited runners. (18% vs 32% league average)

i mean, i'm not saying the metsies should throw buckets of money after him, and if another team is willing to do so, then they can have him, but for a reasonable sum of money, the mets could do far worse than to bring him back as part of bullpen2011

The Mets added right-hander Manny Alvarez to the 40-man roster on Wednesday.

Alvarez, 24, went a combined 6-4 with a 2.17 ERA while appearing at three levels of the Mets minor league system -- Class A St. Lucie, Double-A Binghamton and Triple-A Buffalo. The Venezuelan pitcher converted 17 of 21 save chances while logging 78 2/3 innings. He struck out 84, allowed 55 hits, 19 earned runs while walking 12.

The Mets' 40-man roster is full at 40 at the moment.

The deadline for adding players to the 40-man roster to protect them from the Rule 5 draft is Nov. 19. "We'll be taking some players off the roster before then, so we'll have room to add some more guys to the roster," a team official said.

I hope Luis Hernandez sticks as a reserve infielder.

I got some work to do.

Funny that they cleared so much space at once. Maybe it was a wire-flooding maneuver, and felt that there was less risk if all the names were out there at once and the waivers went through before anybody else had trimmed their rosters.

I would love to see a team try to carry Holdzkom on the roster for a season.

In five years, he's totaled 126 innings, 87 of them in one season.

He'd go totally LaLoosh, striking out 11 guys per nine innings, walk eight, get in a few brawls, and his arm would explode by June.

Interesting is that the current lineup leaves no (immediate) slot for Dave Jauss. Tough to go from the (brief) favorite to odd man out, but that's the way it shakes when it was Jerry who brought you in. Associations with Jerry Manuel and Grady Little are mixed blessings for ambitious men.
