Alex Sanabia vs. Pat Misch. Let's continue to beat the fish.

You know the difference between meat and fish? If you beat your fish, it will die.

I just got what you meant by this - I honestly thought they lost last night - and apologizes to Fman.

No worries. Of course, if they lose, well, I can't be held responsible...

Which of the five outs Frenchy made yesterday did Jerry find most impressive, I wonder?

AND he abuses puppies?

GET THAT PUPPY MOLESTER OFF MY TEAM!

I'm more stunned at Tejada not Castillo than anything involving Frenchy.
I mean, not even the seemingly customary free start as reward for the game-winning hit deal.
Or even not the radical idea of sitting down the guy who's making outs 95% of the time.

It's crazy. I don't get it.

At least the 'Friends of Frenchy Society' (they meet in a phone booth outside of SNY studios each day) can argue that 2 of his 5 outs drove in runs last night, whereas the 'Tejada Zapatas' have to console themselves with the realization that in his HS yearbook he was consistently voted the boy most likely to ground-out.

it does, indeed, afford us much consolation.

So, what you're saying is, Francoeur made outs, while Tejada's worthless ass merely got on-base twice last night?

Viva Tejada and his senor superlatives!

In all seriousness, if you're looking forward, you can make a case for starting Tejada over Castillo right now (not that it would be the most compelling one, but still).

If you take a good look at fact, and you're honest with yourself, there IS no reason you should pencil in Frenchy, who's neither the win-now candidate nor the look-forward candidate.

C'mon, It was an IW and a HBP[/quote:4z07gaow]

If either had happened with the bases loaded, he gets RBIs.

Kinda like Francoeur with the "sac flies."

This is an odd argument we're having.

I think the last time he actually earned his own way on base Americans still had the image of BP as an environmentally friendly company.

It was a walk. If Castillo walked, he'd be hailed for being an on-base machine, so I think this counts.

This is now getting absurd. Working out a walk takes at least some degree of skill in most cases.
Standing there while 4 wide ones are called for from the opposing dugout based on a strategy move (and a bad one at that IMO but that's a separate story) doesn't qualify for anything resembling an ability to get oneself on base.
In fact, take out Tejada's HBPs and IWs and his OBA comes in at a ringing .204 this season (as opposed to his otherwise robust .268) and I don't even want to know what it's been more recently.

This is an odd argument we're having.

Yes it is.
My only point here is that I can make a better argument for Francoeur starting than I can for Tejada - at least as long as the intention is, y'know, like trying to win games and stuff.

Poor Jerry. He's probably getting mixed signals from the boys at the top and doesn't know how to please everybody.

"We have to play the kids. For the future."

"We're out of it. Bay's out of it. Our cleanup hitting star centerfielder is playing with a fire truck attached to his knee cap. Our cleanup hitting star third baseman is in the middle of an experiment to see if he can hit the ball while standing in the third base on-deck circle. Our star reliever is going to jail. And our beloved and adored cleanup hitting rookie first baseman who makes the highlight reels every week is just about the worst first baseman in the NL ... across the board, whether by batting average, getting on base or home run frequency. Look it up if you don't believe me. Oliver Perez is Steve Blass with Cy Young award money. Angel Pagan plays every day and bats at the top of the order even though he hits lefties like Wally Backman's sister. Jeff Francoeur plays every day and he can't hit anybody ... not even Wally Backman's sister."

"But don't let on. This is our dire secret. We still need to sell tickets for September".

"Play for the future".

"But play to contend".

"And fool the fans if you must. We need to sell tickets.".

"You need to sell tickets".

"It's up to you, Jerry. You can have the Cadillac El Dorado. Or the set of steak knives. Or we could fire you. It's your choice."

"Let's see what the kids can do. But let's sell some tickets, too."

"Let's compete"

"Are we clear?"

I'll take Tejada over Castillo. Luis has no 2011 Mets future as where Tejada could for many years.

It also tells you I've given up on 2010.

Are we sure that Maybin isn't trying to passive-aggressively get back at an overbearing parent? 'Cause he kinda plays defense that way.

Posted

Yea Maybin.
You dive for the ones you don't have to dive for and you let the ones you should get to routinely go by.
You keep doing that.
