Wanted a better showing to start the second half but it was Lincecum, after all. With this game he earns what I beleive is his first-ever win over the Mets.

He'd have won no matter what, but Jerry's dumbass bunting and using three relievers in a losing game is just the kinda shit losing streaks are made of.[/quote:25e1mh14]
It's maddening. It's like he almost congratulates his benevolent self for not using a guy (except his one garbage guy) for more than an inning, but thinks nothing of using him daily.

The perfect way for this season to play out would be for the Mets to win the World Series and then have Jerry get fired. (Well, not "fired." I guess "not renewed" would be more accurate.)

Extremely unlikely, I know.

Maybe they can pull a NJ Devils (what was the coaches name? Amarillo?) and have Wally Backman step in in September for the playoffs, after the Cyclones finish.

He's gonna get himself fired (or not renewed, at any rate) on this very trip if he's not careful.

I think Backman is real possibility for '11.

Me too.[/quote:280f65vk]

I still think the Mets will make the playoffs. And i cant' see Omar or Jeff being bold enough to fire a manager after that.

I suspect the Mets will fall short. But you're right, if they do make the playoffs, then Jerry comes back, unless he makes outrageous contract demands as a result of the team's success. If that were to happen, they could easily justify replacing him with scrappy fan favorite Backman.

If you love Jerry, you'll loooooooove Wally (apparently)*.

*All usage of the word "love" in this post is intended ironically, and winkingly-but-fully represents the opinion of its purveyor.

Yeah, any frustration with Jerry should NOT be turned into a campaign for Wally Backman.

Nine runs in six games is sure to get the seat a bit warmer. A poor showing on this trip could spell the end of Gangsta Jerry.

Tons of Mets fans in the house last night. More than I remember seeing at any game here in the past.
