Maybe this Teixiera contract is threatening to turn bad ahead of schedule.

You don't pull Jose over that.

Indeed. Lazy dumb gets a yank. Overly aggressive dumb gets a chat after the game.

Nice job Frankie. Not your fault that the Yanx specialize* in hitting balls to shitty to be turned into DPs

Howie: "The one thing Cervelli hasn't given the Yankees this year is power."

Gwreck: "He hasn't given them class, either."

Finally a happy recap!

Joe Buck's voice hurts my ears and McCarver just blows anymore. That said, with tomorrow night on ESPN, it's out of the frying pan and into the fire with Miller an Morgan.

Jerry had his genius cap on today. Bringing in Frankie with the bases loaded in the 8th and one out was the genius move of the year. I woulda said so even if Frankie got bombed. Now that's how I'd use my best reliever. That's a save!

Yeah, but Rodriguez executing not only gives the Mets the win, but gives the move some positive re-inforcement.

Learn, Jerry, learn!

**Warning: The following is part Ms. Met like "Thoughts on the Game"" (without the catcher love, though I am growing rather fond of Barajas) and part Salamander Q like rant on the state of the team.**

I really enjoyed watching the Mets kick the Yankmees collective butts last night. Nice to see Bay and Wright have good nights. Bay's actually hitting well, he just isn't providing any power. Hopefully that will come if he continues to swing the bat well. Sure Wright struck out in a big spot again, but he came through with 2 out RBI's in on two other occasions. Pagan continues to produce and surprise (at least me) with his solid play. If only Reyes would stop hitting the ball in the air virtually every at bat. He needs to be hitting the ball on the ground so his speed can be an asset. HoJo needs to make Reyes understand that his speed is of no value on pop ups, unless he's fielding them. Ike Davis appears to be the real deal and the Mets just may have found their first baseman for years to come. All in all, I beleive the Mets have the ingredients in place for a pretty good offense if Wright, Bay, and Reyes perform to their expected (prior) levels.

It's the pitching that concerns me most about the team. It's great to see Pelfrey having his breakout season. He seems to have finally figured it out and now seems capable of getting the big out when he needs one. Santana, though not quite the dominating pitcher of his youth, is still a reliable ace the Mets can depend on to keep them in virtually every game he pitches. Unfortunately, there is not behind the top two. Maine has never been the same since his shoulder surgery following the 2008 season and likely never will be. Perez has never learned to throw strikes consistently so he is seemingly always pitching behind in the count with runners on base. His performance has forced the Mets to bury him deep in the bowels of their bullpen and I don't expect him to ever be a reliable member of the rotation. Niese showed promise and was pitching well enough for the back of the rotation guy, but he is on the DL with a leg injury for the second time since August. The Mets rotation of Santana, Pelfrey, and little else now makes me think like the fans of the old Boston Braves with their lament of, "Spahn and Sain and pray for rain". The bullpen is capable, but greatly overworked due to the rotations lack of quality depth and Jerry Manuels micromanging. Getting Igarashi back should help the greatly overworked combo of Feliciano and Nieve.

The Mets need to find some help for the rotation and a new manager that doesn't remove virtually every starter, not named Santana, once they near the 100 pitch count. I am doubtful the Mets will find either until it is too late to contend with the Phillies this season.*

*I thank you for your tolerant indulgence of my getting some of the thoughts swirling through my mind out for my own sanity. I feel better, though I'm sure many of you may not.

What she said. If you can't dump this here, where are you going to do so?

I think Tak may have more to offer-- think Moyer minus a decade-and-a-half-- than we might expect.
