I do not disagree.

That would certainly suggest to me he's been ill-served and ill-used by his manager.

And if I recall, he hit cleanup in that game. Has any other Met got one, and only one, start, in which he was the cleanup hitter?

Freaking strange, isn't it? I'd have to put my money on No.

As I said before, it was a move that needed to be made but I think I'll be able to refrain from labeling the guy an anti-Christ on account of it.

Not labeling him an antiChrist, or telling you what you should think, either. I'm just saying that the local-boy-made-good thing isn't plucking at my heartstrings a bit for this one.

He wasn't doing the job in spring training, and they went with him anyway, in large part (presumably) because of the advantage he had over other 25th man candidates in positional versatility. He's played one game in the field so far this year.

Catalonatto also played a few innings of left field this season -- not that this omission detracts from the main of your sensible post.

Nope, Catalanotto is the only Met to bat cleanup in his one and only start for the team.

TRIVIA QUESTION: Who's the one guy to make his one and only Metly start as a leadoff hitter?

McKay is a good guess, as his 2002 frat brother Mark Little. I don't think either are correct, though.

I was going to guess Jason Tyner until you mentioned the homer. I don't think Tyner could hit a homer if he batted from second base.

I was at both Snead's sole start and the extra-inning game he won with his home run. Yes, I lead a rich, full life.

Wow, Jermaine Allensworth really was a bad guess.

Generally, you can't miss* with the statement "Jermaine Allensworth really was a bad ______."

*Exception: If you put a Isaac Hayes-like emphasis on "bad," you might run into problems with the truthitude of that statement, there.

I clicked to the third page of this thread first and saw the answers before I saw the question but would have guessed it was a rundown of Mets who wore No. 23 (Snead, Chrsitensen, Allensworth ... and Carter).

Actually, Tyner has a home run (although obviously not with the Mets) a couple years ago. It was a hit down the line that just barely made it over.

Severely off topic question for Lunchbucket: Do you know why Robin Ventura didn't want #23 when he came to the team in '99? As far as I can tell it was available for him. 23 is always a number I associate with Ventura even though he wore #4 for the Mets.
