Chin-fuzz righthander Ricky Nolasco goes for Marlins, and he has been brilliant this spring, after a pretty weak 2009. On the other hand, John Maine's been real spotty, but claiming to be throwing pain-free. Some may be dubious.

Nolasco is 3-6, 5.99 in 15 games (13 starts) lifetime against the Mets. John Kevin Maine (son of Kevin John Maine) is 2-0, 3.74 in four career starts against the Marlins.

Nolasco's lousy 2009 honestly wasn't even all that lousy, but he may repeat it if the team behind him keeps playing defense like they did yesterday and last season. Even though his ERA jumped a run and a half from his breakout 2008 season to 2009, he actually improved his strikeout rate while maintaining his K/BB and HR ratios. The big difference was that his ability to strand baserunners evaporated to a sort of absurd degree. He's so talented and has a good enough track record that I'd lean towards writing it off as a fluke, especially with the way he's looked this spring.

All that said, the Mets have had his number pretty consistently and I hope that continues.

Nolasco and not-too-shabby reliever Reynel Pinto (plus since released, future MFY Sergio Mitre) from the Cubs for one season of Juan Pierre.

One of three big Cub-Marlin deals I always conflate.

Hee-Seop Choi for Derrek Lee was the one the Cubs won; the Marlins won the Dontrelle Willis (+ others) for Matt Clement (+ others) deal.

Can someone please post tomorrow's Mets lineup? I'd like to bitch about how David Wright was buried at the bottom of the lineup five seasons ago.

Thank you.

I'd like to make a joke about our manager's mental abilities, if that's alright.

You're asking me? I have no clout here. Ask somebody else. Or better yet, go and start a Mets magic number thread. It's 162 less ((the least number of games they play against a divisional opponent/2) +1), as of today. You'll be the smash hit of the forum.

Really.

Plus the day game followed by a night game. With Santana throwing only six innings in game one, they ought to bring him back for game two.

I must have overlooked this split last season:

John Maine was 6-1 with a 1.98 ERA at Citi last season...the lost was in his Citi debut and he won his last six.

Time for more Dale Carnegie Pollyanna sunshine-up-the-arse positivity. The Mets are undefeated! Just put on your pants one leg at a time, especially you Monty Stratton, and give it the ol' college try even if you never made it past eighth grade on some third-world tropical island. Remember, we win as a team, and we lose because Manuel is a liar and an idiot.

Tonight will be the first time John Maine pitches at Citi Field without me in attendance. I hope each of us can persevere apart from one another.

If we see him worriedly scanning the stands during tonight's game, we'll know why.

Well geeze! What type of fan are you?! Get out there! (Don't tell me, you had tickets for Friday and Manuel's rotation flip screwed it up?)
