Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted January 28, 2010 Posted January 28, 2010 We might be fortunate enough to get away with this.Jerry Manuel, exuding confidence in the options at the back of his rotation.
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted January 28, 2010 Posted January 28, 2010 Give him points for honesty. He's not being dealt a good hand for 2010. Right now I suspect that neither he nor Omar will survive the season.
Ceetar Grand Central Contributor Posted January 28, 2010 Posted January 28, 2010 Sure, and I'm sure some of the players are feeling down about things, it'd be nice if the Manager could come out with some confidence instead of basically knocking his guys. Again. If lots of things go right, the Mets could be good. It's his job to try to make those things happen. If he doesn't think he can, what he's really saying is "Please fire me, I'm not good enough to do this."
nymr83 Old-Timey Member Posted January 28, 2010 Posted January 28, 2010 fuck it, i'll take the honesty. (most of) the players arent dumb enough to see through lies about the quality of their teammates anyway, this way maybe they'll believe Manuel when he says something that could be true, like "I've got alot of confidence that we'll have Beltran back soon"
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted January 28, 2010 Posted January 28, 2010 Sure, he just seems a little defeated from muddling out from under the domino pile of last year. Another form of honesty would be a statement like You know, guys like Nieve and Figgie did a really good job for us last year (they did) and were certainly not the reason we finished in fourth place. We'll get a real good look at them this spring and my job is finding the combination that'll give us the best chance of excelling. Omar hasn't told me if he's done yet, but I'm preparing to go forward with what I've got, and seeing Johan and Oliver throwing pain free off a mound (note the re-direction here) is really exciting. I can't wait until February 18th.

Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted February 14, 2010 Posted February 14, 2010 I brought a lot of stuff on myself with previous organizations. I didn't take the game very seriously. I was always blessed with talent. After I was drafted [in the 2003 first round], I took a lot of things for granted. Once I got traded here, it was a clean slate.Blastings Thrilledge, talking to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted February 15, 2010 Posted February 15, 2010 I'm going to go out on a limb here and guess that Lastings is going to Spring Training in the " best shape of his life" and that he is ready to " rededicate himself to the game".....
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted February 16, 2010 Posted February 16, 2010 John Maine on knowing that the great Koufax was watching his bullpen session"I got a little nervous when I heard he would be watching my bullpen session, and then I didn't have a good one,But needless to say, it's an extreme honor to have him around. And then this.......Though his informal visit lasted only about an hour, Koufax tried to do his part Monday, speaking in particular with Maine for "several minutes" about using both sides of the plate and other trade secrets, according to the Times. He gave me a great analogy, one of the best ones I've ever heard. I'm going to try to use it when I throw again on Wednesday."What could the analogy have been?

nymr83 Old-Timey Member Posted March 25, 2010 Posted March 25, 2010 Crasnick has an article about the rotation on ESPN.comhttp://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/spring2010/columns/story?columnist=crasnick_jerry&id=5026560Jose Reyes' thyroid, Carlos Beltran's knee and David Wright's power stroke are all vital to the success of the New York Mets this season. But they're still not as important as the pitching of Mike Pelfrey, Oliver Perez and John Maine in the second, third and fourth spots in the rotation. In other painfully obvious news, Mr. Met has an extremely large head.
