Guest John Cougar Lunchbucket Guests Posted July 16, 2010 Posted July 16, 2010 I don't mean to be one of those fans who presumes to know how to treat athlete injuries but sure seems like the Mets took a different approach to "Prevention & Recovery" when 4 games out vs. early in the year. Especially when it was clear that Compromised Reyes was nowhere hear the player Healthy Reyes was.
ashie62 Old-Timey Member Posted July 16, 2010 Posted July 16, 2010 Adam Rubin has Justin Turner coming up from the Bisons to NY in anticipation of a DL stint by Jose Reyes.
Guest John Cougar Lunchbucket Guests Posted July 16, 2010 Posted July 16, 2010 Went looking for that story only to find that Big Pelf is being pushed to Monday with neck stiffness.Turner is en route but not clear that Reyes DL is the corresponding move?

I found it on Rotoworld.

Guest LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Guests Posted July 16, 2010 Posted July 16, 2010 Apparently, Omar learns this facet of roster management at the pace Jerry learns game-management lessons.

Quite a team. The Mets penchant for keeping injured players on the roster and playing shorthanded is the front office correlate to Jerry's love of sacrifice bunting. It's as if the entire Mets organization has an aversion to prosperity and goes out of it's way to make things as difficult as possible.
Willets Point Old-Timey Member Posted July 17, 2010 Posted July 17, 2010 Oliver Perez had a no-decision tonight pitching for Buffalo against the Gwinnett Braves. His line 6.2 IP, 6 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 2 BB, 7 K.

Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted July 24, 2010 Posted July 24, 2010 It's probably for the best. I had difficulty seeing how he'd come back at any meaningful level of effectiveness.
Guest LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Guests Posted July 25, 2010 Posted July 25, 2010 After yesterday's strain, Throb may be headed DLward. (With three catchers and Ollie sucking up a 'pen spot, I don't understand how this is a "may" situation.)
ashie62 Old-Timey Member Posted July 25, 2010 Posted July 25, 2010 Maybe Thole can make the job his own. If the Mets fall out of it they can do the same thing at 2B with Tejada.
Guest LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Guests Posted July 25, 2010 Posted July 25, 2010 The problem today was that Dickey was in Kershaw's hole, and it ended up straining things.

Guest LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Guests Posted July 26, 2010 Posted July 26, 2010 Apparently, they'll take a look at your strained Rod as well.BTW... this is sheer coincidence that the team's had three guys come down with oblique strains in the last four weeks, right?

The Mets were playing too well for his dastardly plans, so Fred Wilpon hired a hit man who specializes in straining obliques.

Something about the arm angle in the MRI machine. Phillies doctors caught it, he had the surgery, and theoretically should actually be 'healed' now. Still can't bring him back for anything but a minimum incentive-laden compete for a spot but might be depth type contract, but I did/do like Maine and hope he does get healthy again.
Gwreck Old-Timey Member Posted August 4, 2010 Posted August 4, 2010 Ceetar wrote:Still can't bring him back for anything but a minimum incentive-laden compete for a spot but might be depth type contractThat's not an immediate option. He's arbitration eligible, which means he can't have his salary reduced more than a small percentage over what it was in 2010.The Mets would have to non-tender Maine, allow him to become a free agent, assume no one else signs him, and then re-sign him to a minor league deal in May (?) of 2011.

Is that May 1 thing applicable to non-tenders? Or just for guys who have the six or more years of service?

Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted August 4, 2010 Posted August 4, 2010 That May 1st deadline doesn't apply anymore. It used to be that if you cut ties with your own guy you were unable to sign him until May 1 while other teams could hook up with him at any time, but that clause has been removed. So the first half of that is correct - that in order to get Maine at some greatly reduced price not determined under the threat of arbitration they'd have to cut him and allow him to be a FA.But once they did they'd still have the same opportunity to pursue him as anyone else - unless he's pissed off in which case none of this matters.
