I don't mean to be one of those fans who presumes to know how to treat athlete injuries but sure seems like the Mets took a different approach to "Prevention & Recovery" when 4 games out vs. early in the year. Especially when it was clear that Compromised Reyes was nowhere hear the player Healthy Reyes was.

Went looking for that story only to find that Big Pelf is being pushed to Monday with neck stiffness.

Turner is en route but not clear that Reyes DL is the corresponding move?

Rubin is speculating. I found it on Rotoworld.

Turner up, Evans down.

I was all for playing short for 5 or so days and hoping Reyes got better. but if he can't even play the field in an emergency (and swing righty and righty if he had to) then he shouldn't be on the roster right now.

Apparently, Omar learns this facet of roster management at the pace Jerry learns game-management lessons.

Well, the decision would've been easier had Manuel not decided to play him injured.

Indeed. Quite a team.

The Mets penchant for keeping injured players on the roster and playing shorthanded is the front office correlate to Jerry's love of sacrifice bunting. It's as if the entire Mets organization has an aversion to prosperity and goes out of it's way to make things as difficult as possible.

Maine's done for the year... and possibly in blue-and-orange.

#Mets John Maine had arthroscopic surgery yesterday to clean out scar tissue in his right shoulder.

#Mets Maine is expected to be ready for Spring Training.

Damn - I really thought he was on the road back....

It's probably for the best. I had difficulty seeing how he'd come back at any meaningful level of effectiveness.

After yesterday's strain, Throb may be headed DLward. (With three catchers and Ollie sucking up a 'pen spot, I don't understand how this is a "may" situation.)

Apparently, they'll take a look at your strained Rod as well.

BTW... this is sheer coincidence that the team's had three guys come down with oblique strains in the last four weeks, right?

No coincidence at all. The Mets were playing too well for his dastardly plans, so Fred Wilpon hired a hit man who specializes in straining obliques.

Bay suffered a concussion making that catch in Los Angeles, will miss the Cardinals series, perhaps beyond.

That's not an immediate option. He's arbitration eligible, which means he can't have his salary reduced more than a small percentage over what it was in 2010.

The Mets would have to non-tender Maine, allow him to become a free agent, assume no one else signs him, and then re-sign him to a minor league deal in May (?) of 2011.

Hmmm... you have me wondering. Is that May 1 thing applicable to non-tenders? Or just for guys who have the six or more years of service?

What'd he make this year? 3 or so? probably too much for what's pretty much going to be a crapshoot.

That May 1st deadline doesn't apply anymore.
It used to be that if you cut ties with your own guy you were unable to sign him until May 1 while other teams could hook up with him at any time, but that clause has been removed.

So the first half of that is correct - that in order to get Maine at some greatly reduced price not determined under the threat of arbitration they'd have to cut him and allow him to be a FA.
But once they did they'd still have the same opportunity to pursue him as anyone else - unless he's pissed off in which case none of this matters.
