MK pointed that one out to me last week - he really liked it.

Posted

I've see it at Citi Field...and on facebook

here is another from that site....

http://www.nomas-nyc.com/product_strawberry.html

Inspired by a wristband Darryl actually wore in the late 80s. If he had practiced what he preached, he might have hit 500 home runs. But without his trials and tribulations, he would never have had loomed as large in our hearts. As the great William Blake wrote: The road of excess leads to the palace of wisdom. Darryl you showed us the way, and we have amassed our fair share of wisdom. White, Navy, Light Blue are on new custom bodies. Pink and Brown on classic American Apparel style bodies.

I own one of those and got tons of positive comments from complete strangers each time I've worn it to Shea the new park.

I'd be for calling it Shea if the old stadium had been renamed with a corporate name a la so many other parks. But Citifield isn't Shea. If, however, they wanted to rename Citifield then I might switch to the new name if I liked it better.

Good point. I'm sure many Reds fans continued to say "Riverfront" instead of (I think) "Cinergy" and Giants fans probably said "Candlestick" instead of "3M."

But this is a different kind of situation. Maybe some day Citi Field will have an interim period with no corporate sponsor, which could provide us with a name that we might want to cling to.

Being honest this whole Shea thing doesn't bother me in the slightest ....agree with what Sharpie posted..

In a similar vein, I'm calling the bridge in right field the Willie Mays Bridge unless and until they come up with an official name (and that the official name is a better choice than that, which I kind of doubt is possible).

Willie was a New York Giant, so it would be a nice complement to the Jackie Robinson Rotunda. Plus Willie was a Met, so he was the bridge between the former National League teams and the current one.

One night after a game, I overheard an LIRR conductor try to explain to some kid why he had the wrong ticket as regarded what is now known as the "Mets-Willets Point" stop. He, the conductor, referred to the stop as "Shea"; "Citi Field but it's not called that"; "Shea"; and 'I"m going to call it Shea." At no point did he use (as Roger Angell once put it in another matter), the Sixth Avenue name Mets-Willets Point.

I occasionally call it Shea out of habit not from protest. If it were somewhere else it might not be as automatic. Plus Citigroup puts a dime in my checking account every time I use the correct name.

Don't they?

Say Hey, Say Willie Mays Bridge[/url:3dbqrimv].

The virtual tour of Citi had a "Duke's" Food stand. Duke Sinder? Can this be confirmed?

You'd figure with the oodles of beers available at the beer island stand out beyond center field (Big Apple Brews) that two of them would be Rheingold and Schaefer, but I don't think either's been spotted. Not even a Knickerbocker.

They've got 'em at MFY Bank, just inside the "Great Hall," at some sort of "classic beer" stand.

For $9.50 a pop.

Greg, I would HOPE TO GOD that if Knickerbocker was ever brought back by whomever, that none of it ever makes it anywhere near Flushing Meadows.

I'd say you should use your connections and get this done, BRING RHEINGOLD AND SCHAEFER TO CITI FIELD!

But Knickerbocker, NEVAH!

I'm not sure if anyone but the artist knew. Probably seen many other newer parks have stands with popular player names slapped on, and figured with the Ebbets motif that the Mets would eventually reach out to Duke for something in that vein.

Why, who knows, I believe Snider is a full time LA resident right?

Anyway, it was just an artist rendering, I'd wouldn't have put much stock into it.

That being said, its too bad Bluesmoke doesn't have Rusty Staub's name slapped below it.

Pabst Blue Ribbon available by the high-priced can at MFYS III. I know the guy who helped relaunch PBR as a slightly ironic phenomenon. Marketing genius.
