Lovely day for Mrs. Fafif and me in Prom, via MF and in conjunction with the Kongs, despite Idiot of the Day sitting behind me, a lady who started the first by consigning Livan to "an Ollie start" and ended it by complaining bitterly that Sean Green had to pitch because "Jerry wants to help him mentally in the head." Not sure where else one can be mentally helped. Some other minor annoyances could be easily catalogued but seven wins in a row forgives just about everything.

Go team!

Was in attendance today, sat in the fairy seats with KB, G-Fafif, and his wife.
To clarify, themetfairy seats ... we're not fairies, of course. My regular seats
are in the same section and someone from KB's office sat there so we were
well represented.

I didn't realize the home losing streak on Sunday dated back to July until
G-Fafif told me. Nice to put that thing to rest in good game watching company.

Same here, but to clarify, there was a win September 7, but there was also a loss. First exit from Flushing Meadow with unadulterated good vibes in 9-1/2 months.

Also found Shea's bases marked in the parking lot, along with the "pitching plate," which I think is a pitching rubber, but well, either way there used to be a ballpark right there. Lots of clusters of folks taking pictures at each stop. Still needs chalking.

I had a terrific nap on the couch during the game yesterday. Maybe I'm not a real fan but there's nothing quite like the Sunday afternoon in-game nap.

According to the rules and regulations and whatnot, that apparantly is the actual technical term for the area that the pitcher throws from. Mound and rubber being "unofficial" terms substituted through the years.

Gotta agree. Especially when the game that's on isn't as important as a Mets game (I'll always fondly associate Harry Kalas with in-game napping).

Harry was pretty yawn-inducing.

Now, if I feel like I'm going to doze during a Mets game, I let TiVo start recording, and I can pick up where I left off, about an hour or so later. And as a bonus, in addition to being well-rested, I can zip through commercial breaks.

Perhaps it's the Mother's Day hangover, but the first thing I thought when I saw this was, "In whites, he does this? Is he trying to make himself look dirty?" (My internal mother, apparently, is Jewish-- would that she'd share her matzo-ball recipe with me.)

Mom and I had a great time-- she got into the singalongs a bit, and, not wanting to pee on her picnic, I did too. It was nice giving in (for once) to "Sweet Caroline" on a sunny day, and dancing like an idiot with my mom after the Beltran double. It was a bit like taking a kid to games-- everything seemed a bit crisper, shinier, or freshly mown than on most Sundays.

And I feel you, G-Fafif-- we had some rabidly anti-Livan chanter-types sitting near us, as well as some MFY fans with their mothers. The latter spent a good portion of the game explaining the game to their mothers, in the process:

A) Incorrectly explaining what OPS meant.
Correctly explaining what ERA was, just before explaining that "wins and losses" was really what mattered in evaluating pitchers.
C) Giving a dissertation about how "specialized" pitchers were these days, and what a joke it was that the NL didn't "wise up" and accept the DH. They also wondered aloud (emphasis on "loud") whether there were any pitchers who didn't embarrass themselves with the bat. (I actually turned around and responded to this one, rattling off Zambrano, Owings, Santana and "this guy," gesturing to Livan... just before he cracked his line-drive single to left. God smiled on us yesterday.)
